I don't think we've ever had a horrible experience such as the one we experienced at Shipton's a couple days ago. We had just lost a family member that day & were trying to lift up our spirits by stopping in at Shipton's on our way home for our college student to buy a rope for her upcoming rodeo event. We send our girls in 2's to the bathroom because of the whole sex trafficking issue that is plaguing our country. So as usual, our girls went to the bathroom together. Just then one of the managers banged on the door, the girls thought it was someone playing a trick on them but opened the door to a man who in their words, "puffed up his chest and got on his walkie-talkie reporting to someone that 'Two girls just walked out of the bathroom"" He treated them horribly as if they had stolen something and said some other things under his breath. They wanted to get away from him as fast as they could and immediately didn't feel safe around the man with his obvious unwarranted anger toward them. They proceeded to go and buy the rope we came in to purchase and did so, I'm sure with watchful eyes on them as this man was reporting to other employees that they suspiciously came out of the bathroom together. They were basically treated as criminals, as thieves. When they informed me, their parent, I was obviously upset. We come from a respected family and have instilled honesty and integrity in our children. It is insulting to just assume 2 girls going in the bathroom at the same time are up to criminal activity. I asked the man for his explanation of why he treated our girls the way he did, he defended the way he treated our girls saying he had every right to wonder if people who go by 2's in their bathrooms are in his words "doing drugs" or stealing? I told him girls/ women go in groups all the time. He spoke very condescendingly to me the entire time and not one other employee who witnessed his behavior said anything.
I will never again take my business there. Mothers and fathers will understand why in this day & age, we never send our children alone very many places anymore. There are too many real criminals out there that we are trying to keep our children safe from. Not everyone traveling to the bathroom in groups are attempting to do drugs or steal, we are simply trying to remain safe. If the manager would have apologized for treating our children like thieves, or treating them as guilty until proven innocent, we would have gladly reconciled the situation right then and there, but he continued with his condescending tone saying again and again that he "did nothing wrong". Parents beware. You just might have your straight A student/valedictorian treated as the next criminal/drug addict...
Read moreThis is the best example of Customer Service you will ever see. It’s not a big box store or Amazon. It’s Shipton’s Big R in Sheridan, Wyoming. Let me tell you my story:
Easter weekend aWyoming friend and I were supposed to be on the remote shores of Lake Powell camping our way through canyons and up lake further than I have ever been.
Plane tickets were purchased, plans were made, gear ready.... except the food. Since we would be packing light, dehydrated meals were a must. But in early March there were murmurs of a place called Wuhan where a bat and a virus were spreading across the world. When I tried to order dehydrated meals online.... there were none. Nothing. Toilet paper was easier to find. I quickly learned that I wasn’t quite as prepared for my journey as I thought. I had just a few weeks before I left and no food.
So I turned to social media. I posted my predicament. And quickly Rachel Depew and Sam responded. Sam is the manager at Shipton’s Big R in Sheridan. He took photos of items and messaged them to me. I sent him my list that included a jetboil and thermos.
Not only did he do my shopping (my husband doesn’t even do that 😜), Sam and Rachel made sure my items were delivered 1100 miles away in southern Utah on time for my trip.
This customer service experience is truly one of going above and beyond and helping a Local-that-isn’t-so-local... out of a bind.
I come from the best small town with the best people. And just because I don’t live in Wyoming anymore... kindness like this is why I will always call it home.
Thank you Depew’s for being so amazing. And thank you Shipton’s for having what I needed in stock. Although that batty virus managed to push back my trek... it is not cancelled. We will be along the shores of Lake Powell as soon as it is safe to. Until then... shop local! Support your locally owned businesses!! Because they...
Read moreWe bought a rototiller, we thought we had issues due to a miscommunication regarding the rototiller with the manager. A HUGE shout out to Damon Taylor who was the only person to take their time, explain & communicate how to properly use & run the rototiller. No one had any knowledge of the rototiller they where selling us but…. Damon Taylor who took time to come out & help us after having issues for two days with this rototiller. Damon Taylor is the only person who had any knowledge about all of the equipment. Due to his knowledge I firmly believe that Damon Taylor being the only person with any knowledge of the equipment, should be the person that is a manager & being paid a more reasonable amount. Again, Damon was the ONLY person who works at this place who had any knowledge of ALL the equipment thats being sold. Honestly, he should manage the yard equipment, there currently isn’t a manager for the yard equipment just the store manager. Thank you Damon Taylor for your knowledge & thank you for helping us understand the equipment we purchased as you where able to help in areas the manager couldn’t. Thank you Damon Taylor for helping us to load the item & understand the equipment no one else cared or...
