I am Sylvia, and on July 10th of this year, I had a sleeve surgery that would change my life for the better forever! better health etc. I am an attorney who graduated from Seattle University School of Law and I have since moved East to a different state, but after the birth of my youngest son when I was 39, I could NOT get my weight under control no matter how much gym time, personal trainer time, proper balanced diet, professional diet, ie, Keto, Atkins, Isagenix, HCG.... I modeled in my 20's and early 30's and really was NOT one who fought fat imbalance (normal weight was 135, but I have high muscle mass) till after the birth of my last child, (full term weight was 219 lbs, and climbed to 233 before surgery). I fought this battle hard for 12 years getting absolutely no where!! When I had my first consult with Dr. Robert Landerholm, I was greatly taken aback by how approachable and congenial he was by phone and so easy to talk to. He was extremely compassionate about how hard this had been for me! I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and I had such a difficult time doing physical activities that I used to enjoy, like hiking, biking, skiing etc. I felt trapped in someone else's body and hopeless to get back to ME. Dr. Landerholm and staff were very caring, genuine and implicitly KIND! I feel the most important part I can emphasis for ALL reading this is the sincerity of ALL STAFF, including Dr, Landerholm in my direct experience!! Not once did I feel I was just another number, not once did I feel a lack of compassion. AT ALL TIMES IN MY EXPERIENCE THUS FAR, I HAVE FELT FULLY SUPPORTED, ENCOURAGED AND POSITIVE!! Truly professional ALL THE WAY AROUND, from appointment staff to all other medical professionals I have interacted with....Kim, my dietician, Jillian or Esmiralda, my medical assistants, or Faun, the receptionist. I particularly have high regard for Sunny who shared her personal journey with me and was so kind in comforting my panic over hitting a plateau in my weight loss!! I am NOT one to sugar coat ANYTHING, so rest assured, I am NOT exaggerating about my direct experience with this clinic and staff! If you are considering bariatric sleeve surgery or another type of weight loss surgery, you owe it to yourself to sit down for a phone or in person consult with Dr. Landerholm or one of his staff surgeons and discuss your options. I have to give them 5 stars for doing a great job with both my wife and I sleeve surgery. However, it would realistically be more 4.5 stars as they do have a few things I would like to see them work on. They can be a bit slow in responding to emails and even calls, and it does feel a little bit like Im less important to them after the surgery then before. So I can see why they might have some of these negative reviews. However, I think they are all good at what they do and if I compared my scars to the scars others have. People are always amazed how small and perfectly together my scars are. (I know looks are not that important, but the fact that Dr Vanderwell takes pride in how small and neat his incisions are, kind of show me, that he was a perfectionist with the rest of my surgery. Other then gas and constipation I felt no pain or even itching in my incisions and only used pain pills for two days after surgery. My wife also had Dr Vanderwell and is healing up even faster then me. (Knock on wood) I could only imagine doing the same surgeries over and over every day could get a bit old and boring. So the fact the Dr Vanderwell still continues to do a better and more perfect job each time. Seems impressive and comforting to me. I even feel comfortable enough that I recommended him to my daughter. Anyways, the important part of this review is how well the surgery was done and not how flaky or scatter brained the office might be. I for example am horrible with my clients, forget about appointments, book 2 or 3 people at the same time, loose paperwork, forget to call people. Yet, I have over 2000 awards and trophies for being one of the best at what I do. So giving a lower rating due to office organization and lack of call backs. Started the journey in August, 2019, and quickly realized Eviva was the perfect weight loss solution for me. They do everything in-house, so you're not running to different clinics or hospitals for appointments or tests. They worked around my busy schedule, and now with all these Covid restrictions, they offer televisits to continue appointments.

Dr. VanderWel has an incredible passion for improving the lives and lifestyles of his patients, and genuinely cares about well-being and success. He's stuck with me every step of the way, offering suggestions, solutions, and lots of encouragement. The Eviva staff is super friendly, and also very supportive and encouraging. Kim, my nutritionist, is a great mentor for what to eat, best options for meal prep and menu planning, and accountability. With her help, I dropped about 75lbs between my start date and surgery. Dr. Burden and his team of sleep specialists were also easy to work with, and very accommodating with sleep studies and providing the CPAP machines-- again, all in-house!

The surgery itself went well, and I couldn't have been happier with the after-care. They were attentive, friendly, and worked really well together. I could also tell they really care for each other as well as their patients.

In the months since my surgery, Dr. VanderWel has been very attentive, taking a genuine interest in my progress, and offering encouragement and really great advice. Kim has helped keep me on track with my diet, and continues to offer support and meal suggestions to help me keep losing weight. I'm down almost another 50 lbs. and no longer using the CPAP machine. My knees and back are continuing to improve, too!
