Didn't want the same old same old, in regards to burgers, Azteca, Maitland, etc, so I googled " taco tues near me", and after scrolling thru different restaurants, saw this place, liked the reviews and decided to give it a try.. Walked in and was greeted by a Mexican lady who, after asking me how many, told me to take a seat at the first booth, as she was taking dishes to the kitchen.. I sat down, and had a chance to pick up the drink menus in holders on the table.. Nice selection of Margarita drinks on the first one and the second one had a list of all the beer and other spirits they had.. I saw the Margaritas were 9.00, so I when she came to the table and handed me a menu, and ask me if I would like something to drink, I saw they had Jose CUERVO, I ordered a Jose Margarita.. Now, I dont blame this place specifically, but they are just like every other place that serves alcohol.. I didn't ask before I left, but I am guessing that the 9.00 Margarita is house tequila, since when the bill came i saw my Margarita was 14.00.. 5.00 difference between house and jose????.. ANY house spirt is garbage but Jose is just upper lower class/ lower upper class and the drink was Midland at best.. I know it would cost a little more, but restaurants need to put prices on the menu for the drinks they show.. After she brought the drink, she asked if I want chips and salsa or guacamole.. I went with the chips and guac and she pointed out the salsa bar at the front of the house.. I take partial blame, I didn't look at the menu before hand to see the gauc was 10 dollars or i would have gone with just the chips and got salsa out of the bar.. I also didn't see, until later, when I went to the web site, and saw the chips were 2 dollars, but I was only charged for the guac.. This being a mom and pop restaurant, and not a chain, and everything authentic, not boxed like a chain, I can see charging more for the little extra but 10 bucks??.. The chips and guac were delicious.. She came back shortly and took my order, and i had the Shrimp nachos.. Now, once again, just like the drink, the nachos had a 22.00 tag on them ( a tad high but I get it, mom and pop).. Beside the nacho heading, they had shrimp, carne asada, or chicken.. no 2.00 extra, nothing.. nachos came to 24.99.. Yes they were very good, and huge shrimp that were plentiful, but def could have used a tad more cheese.. In the end, bill came to 49.97 before tax and 55.17 after.. When did we go to " tip suggestion " of 20%, 25%, 30% and 35% at the bottom of the bills? This tip culture we went to during the pandemic, has gotten out of hand.. Now I get, the lady who waited on me, she was the only wait staff, I saw, and she was doing a fantastic job, but that being said, I also know that it isn't my responsibility to help finance someone who wont/ can't hire extra help because that would take away from the bottom line.. In the end, I gave 15% of the subtotal.. I dont tip on taxes.. All in all it was a somewhat pleasant experience but I think it is one and done for me and dint think I...
Read moreMy Spanish is weak. A while back, I went to a funeral for a Mexican woman. People spoke to me in Spanish and I got about half of what they said. So, when I saw the sign that said, “Las Brasas del Volcan. I thought the sign painter made a mistake. Turns out los brazos means arms and las brasas means embers. Live and learn. I drive past this place every time I visit my kids, so I’ve seen it often. The building looks like a tiny Azteca, so I wondered how good it could be. The other day, I was hungry and had free time at just the right moment to pull in and check it out. There is a small dining room and an even smaller outdoor patio. Not too many of the tables were full at noon, making me wonder what was wrong with the place. A young man came out and led me to a nice booth by the window. He spoke English well, but seemed a bit shy about it. We managed to communicate just fine. He dropped off a menu and bowls of chips and refried beans. I asked for iced tea and started to study the menu. While I read, I absentmindedly reached for a chip. I was happy to find that the chips were made inhouse. They were crisp, not too oily and well salted. I dipped one into the beans and brought it to my mouth. It was most of the way there when I smelled bacon. You kids may not know this, but back in the day, refried beans were drenched in fat. Often the fat was lard, but some people used bacon fat, since there was always some around after making breakfast. Sometime in the 90’s, the word went out that fat was bad for you and Mexican restaurants all over the US switched to stock. I’m an Anglo, but I grew up on well larded beans, so these were a nostalgic blast from the past. I’ve been into enchiladas recently. I like the way the salsa rojo soaks into the tortillas and keeps everything moist. I make a pretty good version myself, but it is fun to let someone else do the work sometimes. I ordered the version with chicken. The plate that showed up was beautiful. Four perfectly rolled tortillas rested in a shallow pool of sauce that was more marrón than rojo. A layer of lettuce, cheese and a couple of radish slices topped the dish. From the appearance and the smell, I knew I was going to enjoy this dish. I asked for more iced tea and dug in. The enchiladas tasted as delicious as they looked. The salsa had a great depth of flavor. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the tortillas were lovely. I like to sop up sauce with each bite, so I could have used a little more, but that is just a quibble. When the bill came, it was not outrageous. More than at a taqueria, but less than Azteca. I was glad that I pulled in. Now I will have to leave more time when I plan to visit the kids so I can stop in...
Read moreEDITED: The way you replied to a customer is extremely rude and how you were on the phone. I did mention to you and the woman who answered the phone how the food was all of it. As a manager you should want your customers to be happy and treated with respect. The fact you NEVER reached out to me when you could not do the refund we agreed to is rude and not how I should be treated.
You could have called me, offered a full refund, and asked me to take this down and I would have been happy to do just that. The way you responded only supports how you treated me. I will be in tomorrow as we talked about to get the refunded amount of the quesadilla.
Called in a to go order on Saturday the 28th, the cheese on the quesadilla was not even melted, the tortilla didn't even looked browned like it should. Then we ordered chicken and steak fajitas and got home and there was only chicken, no toppings like guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, or salsa. I called right away and said I wanted a refund on the mistake. The manager said okay he would refund the $5. The. Called and said he couldn't do that and would give me a credit of the quesadilla. I didn't hear anything back and gave them a few days. Called again today 7/3 to see where the refund was, again spoke to the same manager and he told me he couldn't do it without the card. When asked why he didn't call and see if I could come in before I left out of town he just gave a bunch of excuses why he hadn't called days later. Very disappointed in the service and food quality especially for the price. I will be going in Saturday for the supposed refund I'm getting although at this point I think I'm owed 100% of my...
