The Cottages at Siesta Key are just OLD and dirty. At almost $400 a night, we expected much, much better. These are just to name a few of the problems we encountered in 3 of the Cottages (there were 3 separate families in each cottage).
**Our biggest problem was all the printed rules (I have pictures of everything). There was a rule that stated each guest was to clean, dry and put away all dishes, pots, silverware, etc they used before checking out. In normal times, without a dishwasher, this is disgusting. In COVID times, this is just irresponsible and dangerous. ** I swept the 2 bedroom cottage the day we got there. There was a large grapefruit size hairball, sand and dirt that came up. I have a picture of this. We could not have made that mess on that on the first day, so I can only assume the place was NOT vacuumed or swept before we came in. **POOL: the pool itself was very nice. BUT there was so many ants we couldn't put anything down. They were crawling on the chairs also. The chairs were extremely dirty and mildewy. **The walls, bathroom doors and ceilings were dirty with food (yup - food) or just rub spots. **The outside patio furniture was also dirty and mildewy. **The couch and loveseat in the cottage were filthy with hair and noticeable stains. Couch was also broken in middle. **The Dining Room chair was broken and my daughter almost tumbled to the ground when sitting on it. **The water pressure in the shower was so low. I felt like that movie, Elf, where Will Ferrell has to splash himself to get clean. **My niece had to change cottages after the first night because her a/c was boiling hot then freezing cold. **The front desk never answered any of our calls back and they were very off putting and uninviting. This was especially upsetting because our first contact was by email and phone with Vonette. She was lovely. **Our front door stuck so bad you had to use your whole body to bang it open. We were in the Elderberry. **In the "Master bedroom", there really should have been a 2nd bathroom. But instead there was a cedar closet with a water heater in it. There were also 2 sets of what seemed like large peep holes next to the pipes. Very, very strange. **The 2nd bedroom had 2 single beds. The sheets were very thin (see thru) and the blanket was an old orange stained thin thing. The box spring had a ripped, stained sheet over it. There was also only one night stand. There were marks on the wall where a 2nd stand probably was. **The refrigerator was missing the clear shelf holders on the door that usually hold the milk, etc. And the freezer had a rusted grated shelf. **The parking situation was very strange. It was only one car per cottage or two for the 2 bedroom. If you had a guest, they had to park at the 7-11 two streets away or a garage a few minutes away. Not sure why they didn't have an agreement with a lot within walking distance.
The only good things we saw were the floor (it was durable and good for a beach cottage), the tv's were great and like previously stated, Vonette was lovely. She was our first contact.
I've read the other reviews and I can only assume that these reviews were left before the COVID shutdown. Very, very disappointed. We tried to address these things but were left with no call back or just told they had many return customers so they were surprised.

Read moreWe booked the Wild Coffee cottage at The Cottages at Siesta Key for two days - 3/25/21-3/26/21. We only needed two days and was pleased that I was able to get a place Lots of places require a minimum 3 days - some even a week. We received a call that the room was ready and we were able to check in early if we wanted.
The cottage was clean but did have a bit of a musty smell - likely due to its proximity to the water. The half kitchen had a hot plate, toaster, microwave, full refrigerator, ice cube trays in the freezer, cookware, dishes, and utensils to use. There is no dishwasher - dishes will need to be washed and dried the old fashioned way. They do provide Palmolive dish soap, kitchen rags & towels, and a drying rack to complete the task.
Dishes are suppose to be washed, dried, and put up before you leave. When I made dinner on our first night the previous occupants put their dishes up wet and I'm not talking about a drop or two of water. We had to hold the plates over the sink to drain the excess water. That was kind of gross.
The bathroom and bedroom were very clean and the A/C worked very well. There is no daily housekeeping service and you have to take out the trash before you leave. Be sure to read the binder provided in your room.
There is a patio table with umbrella on the deck for four people. But if you want to eat inside there are only two chairs for the table. We didn't eat outside during our stay because it was really windy. Our 4 year old was with us so my husband and I had to take turns sitting at the table. I would have loved to have a folding chair for indoor dining.
It was a 3 minute walk to public beach access #13. I absolutely loved that beach chairs (2) and umbrella that was provided. Wagons, beach toys, extra chairs, and body boards are available on a first come first serve basis.
The pool was very nice and after a day at the beach my 4 year old loved it. Deck chairs and tables were available. There were also pool toys available. I saw a grill near the pool so I would assume that would be available if you needed it.
The location is great. We felt safe walking to and from the beach with our son. We were also within walking distance of a couple of great restaurants so we never had to drive anywhere. There is only one parking spot for the cottage we stayed at.
Overall this place was pretty great - location, location, location. If I come back to Siesta Key I will definitely...
Read moreI will keep this short and sweet because I want all travelers to read this review! I am an avid traveler and only write reviews if the accommodations AWESOME or** falsely advertised. Myself and a group of friends recently stayed at the Buttonwood Cottage, at The Cottages on Point of Rocks Road in Siesta Key. The trip was a bachelorette party for my sister. We booked the cottage for three nights. Unfortunately on the second night of our stay, we discovered cockroaches in the master bedroom (where my sister was sleeping). We tried calling the front office, but it was overnight, therefore no one was available to assist. The front desk representative (Misty) is only available for 4-5 hours each day. When she arrived at work at the next day (10AM on a Saturday), we spoke with her immediately and advised we had to relocate to a different hotel, given our group size. We asked her to please contact the Cottage owner and request a refund for our last two nights. Misty advised us that the owner was “traveling” but that she was working on getting in contact with him. The group had plans to spend the last day on a boat. I let Misty know this information and asked her to please contact the phone number on file once she had spoken with the owner. We returned to the cottage around 5PM. No one contacted us. We decided to see if we’d be able to sleep the 8 guests in the living and other two rooms. As we started to get settled into bed, a sixth cockroach was located under the living room bed. Once again, there was no front desk representative available to assist us. We were forced to go back to our original plan, pack our bags and relocate to a different hotel. I decided to reach out to The Cottages in hopes of coming to an understanding where our last two nights were refunded for the roach infestation. Unfortunately the Cottage representative (Misty) is claiming that we are not being truthful. She changed her story and told her boss a different order of events. As you can see from the photos, cockroaches were clearly found (and squished). If you are looking for a bargain hotel and don’t mind bugs, this is the place to you. Unfortunately our trip was ruined due a falsely advertised “clean” and affordable beach bungalow and uncompromisable owner. Stay at...
