YOU CANNOT SET UP YOUR OWN CHAIRS ON THE BEACH THAT IS ACCESSIBLE FROM THIS HOTEL. (DETAILS BELOW)
Hotel: We gave 4 stars because the hotel and staff were nice. We were not happy with the beach but details on that are below. This an older hotel but very well maintained and renovated. It has a small pool and nice outdoor seating with grills. We had a standard studio. It was nicely set up with a small kitchen area that was big enough to make breakfast. It was a small and cozy space with enough space for 2 people to stay comfortably. The staff was very nice and gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Area: There are several walkable restaurants and bars. There is a trolly and a shuttle service called the frog hop that will take you to restaurants and bars that are further away on the island. You just tip the driver. It worked well and we enjoyed the village bars and restaurants that are a short ride on the frog hop.
Beach: This hotel offers access to the beach from the property but the beach that you are accessing is privately owned by the other resorts and condos. This hotel does not own any beach property. The beach is owned by whatever hotel and condo sits directly in front of the beach. Apparently local law allows the owner of that property to put up flags making the sand in front of their resort/condo a private beach. You cannot set up your chairs on it or use it in any way. You will be kicked off and they patrol it. These private areas extend for miles and comprise 99% of the dry sand for miles. The only area you can use is the area in front of the private beach flags where the water reaches the sand. Most days you would basically have to sit in the water and it is crowded with others doing the same. If you are willing to pay a rental fee of $40 a day, a company will rent you chairs and let you use their private beach area but if you plan to bring your own chairs its awful. We planned to spend all of our days on the beach and bring our own equipment. We saw this complaint in other reviews but figured we could just walk past the private beach and find a spot further down. We were incorrect. No matter what you are told this is simply not true there is no space available for public use. There is no non private areas for miles unless you go to the public beach which is 2 miles miles away. We ended up just having to pack the car in the morning and go to the public beach, which was extremely frustrating when you are paying for a beach accessible hotel. On a side note it is the busiest public beach I have been to in my life. To get a parking space you need to get there before 11Am and expect it to packed. We went in early April (a few weeks after spring break) and it was crazy busy.
On vacation our favorite thing to do is spend our days on the beach so the fact we couldn't enjoy the beach really put a huge damper on our trip. We Rated the hotel a 4 because in fairness the hotel was good and staff was nice but the beach was terrible. We won't be visiting again and I highly suggest steering clear if you plan to bring your own chair and equipment. If you plan to pay the $40 daily rental you are...
Read moreI am writing to share a distressing experience from my recent stay at Tropical Beach Resorts, which I believe highlights a significant security issue on the premises. On the morning following our check-in, we were disheartened to discover that our rental vehicle had been struck by another vehicle during the night.
Concerned about the incident, I immediately approached the front office and requested to speak with the property manager. A lady at the front desk asked me to wait for a moment while she looked for the general manager. Soon, Mr. Bill Jones, the General Manager, emerged from the back office. I explained to him what had happened, and he asked to see the damage to our rental vehicle. After inspecting the damage, he gathered details about the incident, including the date, approximate time, and vehicle information of the car that was parked next to ours. Mr. Jones assured me that he would review the surveillance footage and get back to me.
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, when we returned to our room, we were surprised to find an envelope on our bed. Despite having the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, someone had entered our room. Upon reading the letter and the incident report written by Mr. Jones, I was utterly shocked. Mr. Jones exhibited a complete lack of concern for the damage to my rental vehicle, the out-of-pocket expenses I would incur for the damage, and the overall safety of his residents.
Notably, Mr. Jones mentioned in his letter that the surveillance cameras had been "fixed." However, today, when I called the Sarasota Police Department to file a report, the officer who spoke with Mr. Jones' wife was informed that there was a "work order" to repair the cameras. The inconsistencies in Mr. Jones' statements are highly alarming. Are the security cameras operational or not, especially when the hotel parking lot is extremely crammed with odd corner parking spots. I emailed Mr. Jones in response to his letter and I have yet to receive a response.
The lack of adequate security measures to help prevent such incidents is quite concerning. Guests expect hotels to have robust security measures, such as CCTV, to protect their valuables. I believe it is crucial for future guests to be aware of this issue and for the resort to take all necessary steps to enhance the safety and security of their premises to prevent such incidents or worse from occurring without accountability....
Read moreSylvia 4⭐️= amazing Feb 2022, all are welcome as you are. Staff is stellar 5 star for a 3.5 property. The room we stayed in was a studio apartment with 2 double sized beds, full kitchen (no dishwasher), leather couch and decent sized bathroom with 2 sinks, one in and one out of the toilet/shower room. Just need more hooks for swim suits and towels. Plenty of space to unpack and hang or put in drawers and make yourself home for the week, month or weekend. A ceiling fan to get the air moving. Thank you. House keeping your choice, they come around but you’ll need to let them know if you want full service, light service or, tag the door, no service. Main lobby has coffee, cookies & DVDs available during office hours. Staff is super friendly and when they are all bragging they’ve been here over 20 years, you know it’s a good place to work. The place bumped up to another star because of the staff. The color and furniture is dated best of the 2000s, that’s the only draw back but it’s mostly in good shape. One of the mattresses in our room is ready to be replaced, felt like I was the center of a taco. The kitchen and bathroom are current and updated. A small broom would be nice, as it’s impossible not to bring sand in with you. The outdoor furniture, is placed all over the property to chill, vinyl strapped loungers, not pretty but easy to maintain. Pool is large and gets plenty of sun. After sunset enjoy the bunnies all around, they are a delight! Depending on your room the beach is a short stroll away and they offer complimentary beach towels to borrow too. I would recommend...
