I decided to give Lucky Star consignment a shot, even after reading the other reviews from sellers. My mistake. I normally head to the consignment shops in Tacoma, but with the cost of gas, I wanted something closer to home.
I stopped off with the first 13 gallon trash bag. Everything went smoothly and when I signed the contract, I opted to have ALL my clothing returned vs. Lucky Star "donating" whatever they didn't think they could sell. I even marked the "R" on the each left bag (as instructed by the sales clerk) so they knew to return it.
About a month later, I brought in the 2nd 13 gallon bag of clothes and checked in on the status of the 1st bag. This is where everything took a turn. After I dropped off the bag, it was radio silence. I stopped in the store about 7 days later. The store associate told me they didn't know where the bag was and the owner would get ahold of me. Ok, no problem. I waited and on the 4th day of not hearing anything, I sent an email asking about the bag I dropped off.
The owner responded to the email saying she never received a note to contact me. That was a big red flag, especially after speaking with the sales clerk the week prior. At that time I requested to come pick up all my items. I never heard back.
The following day, I went into the store to pick up the items I left to sell and get the bag of returned items. This is when I learned all the clothing that should have been returned to me, was actually donated.
When I questioned the owner further on how this could have happened, her tone changed and the excuses came out. She told me, it was my handwriting on the bag (not sure how she knows my hand writing since I've never met her before) then continued to say I requested to donate it. Which was a complete lie. Both the contract and bag stated the items were to be returned.
Out of two full 13 gallon trash bags, I was able to get back maybe 1/2 of one 13 gallon bag.
Don't waste your time here. This place seems to take advantage of sellers. Not sure what actually happened to the clothing I dropped off. Maybe it did get donated (and the business got to keep my tax write off) or maybe the process isn't that transparent so they can more easily take advantage of the people coming to use their consignment services.
I do know by the owners quickness to argue and blame shift over their mistake, I wouldn't be surprised if they are operating in the grey zone of business practices/ethics. I honestly feel taken advantage of as a seller.
Communication and customer service is key to working in retail. This place...
Read moreI cannot emphasize enough how incredibly frustrating my experience with Lucky Star Consignment Store has been. If you value transparency, honesty, and a business that treats its customers fairly, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place.
Like so many in the area, we're a military family so we move around. We relocated out-of-state and I requested to have my earnings from consignment sales check mailed to my new address. The owner asked me to send a letter with a stamped envelope and request this in writing, so I did. I received the payment fine. And my bank cashed it without any trouble because THEY have the paperwork regarding my name change, so all went smoothly. When I was in town visiting recently, I dropped by the store to pick up the remaining balance due to me. She refused to pay me since I had changed my last name (even though she had done this by mail under the same circumstances), but now that I was in person, I need an ID. Okay, fair enough, so we started to leave when she told me I could use the store credit but being paid in cash/check wasn't an option. I was confused. If the issue was the last name, why would she allow me to spend the money (credit) but not just pay me the cash? She became very pushy and was clearly angered that I'd questioned her reasoning. It seemed she just wanted me to spend the money in the store instead of elsewhere. It was controlling and didn't make sense to me. I went ahead and did that in order to avoid any future contact with this company. The owner, Stacy is short tempered, changes policies to suit her and was argumentative instead of being reasonable. I understand the need for ID. I don't understand the inconsistent message and hostility. I looked up reviews and wouldn't you know it, SO MANY bad review, specifically naming the owner. Listen to me when I tell you there's something fishy going on here. This is not an honest, upstanding logically run business. Consignors BEWARE. I warned my community through Facebook about her questionable business practices, and to my surprise, many past customers agreed. We weren't alone in our frustrations. Rather than making amends, the owner doubled down, responding in a dishonest and defensive manner, completely misrepresenting the events and my interactions. The whole experience was disappointing. Also, the clothing is terribly overpriced and smells bad, so I'm moving on. JBF is a pop up consignment that is absolutely amazing! Read moreNormally I reserve time spent writing reviews of establishments for posting good reviews. Sadly, that is not the case this time. Today I went into Lucky Star Consignment for the first time. Upon entering the shop I was immediately impressed by the lovely selection of women's clothing. However, I didn't have to time to explore this part of the store further because I had my three young children with me and today was about shopping for my school aged daughter. We were shopping for back to school clothing, and I hoped to stretch our dollar further by scoring some gently used items at an affordable price. Anyone who has been shopping with young children knows it can be a challenge to keep them occupied while searching the racks especially in a used clothing shop; in short time is of the essence. I had only perused one rack and gathered a handful of items to consider before my three year old called out, "Mommy, I need to go potty real bad". (sigh) Toddler in tow, I rushed to the clerk and asked if we could please use their restroom. (as he was chiming in, I need to go really bad) The clerk replied, "We don't have a restroom, but you can go next door to he pizza restaurant." Knowing what "Mommy, I need to go really bad means" in toddler talk, I tried to rush the other two out of the store and to the restaurant nearby. Then, upon entering found an employee and asked if we could please use their restroom. Which was no problem. During this time it occurred to me that Lucky Star Consignment most likely had a restroom, but opted to not share it with their patrons. I thought it was strange that I was referred to go to the restaurant down the strip mall where I wasn't a "customer". I decided to return to the store and ask the clerk if they did indeed have a restroom and chose to not allow us to use it. She said they did have a restroom, but she was instructed by her manager not to allow anyone to use it. I don't claim to know the reasoning for Lucky Star not allowing patrons to use their restroom, but if it is because they don't want to clean it after the use of their patrons it seems a little presumptuous to assume that Round Table Pizza wants to lend out their restroom for the use of their customers.
In a world where customer service sets one store aside from another, and in the case of children's clothing it is only a matter of saving a few dollars at a consignment store, I will choose to spend our families money at a store that is more...
