Disappointed would be an understatement.. I have been with Banfield since 2006 across several different states, and at every location my dogs have been expertly and loving cared for both for wellness checks and triage. That all changed when I moved back to WA and had to interact with the Silverdale location. While in temp lodgings one of my dogs began yelping in pain non stop, I immediately put him in the car heading to Banfield, while calling to let them know we were on our way. Now this was during "normal business hours" and kept getting the after hours voicemail, even after hitting redial multiple times. I finally had to call the grooming area and ask if they were open and to please ask the vet side to call me, quickly.. I arrived within 15 mins and ran inside to see if someone could help, there were no people waiting to be checked in. The girl at the desk nonchalantly said, "oh yea I got your number".. then crickets. I urgently asked for help getting my dog out of the car and for triage help. She in no sense of urgency, checked the computer and said, there were no appointments avail for the day. I explained my dog was actively having an emergency and I needed help. She replied she would see if the vet might possibly take a look at him between wellness checks, but didn't even move from her chair. I asked for help getting him from the car and into a room, she replied, she would see if she could help "after" she finished checking in the person who had just walked in behind me, I told her where my car was and said I would wait for her there. After several mins of sitting in the parking lot, with a dog in obvious distress, no one came to help me. I finally got on my phone to find an emergency vet to take him, where it was determined he had a herniated disk in his neck. Now I know if anyone from Banfield see's this, they will simply give a false apology, and then state, they are not an ER facility, HOWEVER.. every Banfield I have had a relationship with, since 2006 and in 4 states, has always put injured animals first (they always have that sign in the waiting area stating so) and at the very least triaged and stabilized the animal even if they had to refer them to a higher level of care. NONE of this happened with the Silverdale location!! We had only been in the area 3 weeks and had no idea where things were at, but knew our previous Banfield had always taken care of us, so why would we have expected any different from this location, AND during regular business hours?? So not only do they not switch their phone lines from after hours vm (an hour after opening), they refuse to even assist with an a pet in pain, heck if they answered their phones and told me they couldn't help but told me where to go, had the girl at the desk also said anything like that and told me where I could take my dog, that would have at least been something.. but no!!! nothing.. crickets, no care, no compassion, no help, for a dog in pain.. The folks at the ER facility told me this was pretty common for that location, the Neurologist we later saw, also echoed this information. Luckily the wellness plans I had for both my dogs was scheduled to renew in Dec, once my dog was stabilized I called and cancelled both plans. So after over 14 years with Banfield the Silverdale location has ruined a great...
Read moreUgh. Where do I begin? We were with Banfield for about 7 years, through three cities. in the beginning, in Portland, they were great. In Lakewood, they were okay. Most recently in Silverdale, they were terrible. First, their is no attention to detail. We came in to get a prescription refilled. They gave us the wrong prescription. I called and they said they'd get me a corrected prescription when the doctor was back in. They never returned the call. I called again and reminded them. They never called back. Finally, I went in and insisted and finally they gave me the corrected prescription. They tried to give my cat medication he is very allergic to. Years ago, in Portland, our cat, a kitten at the time, had an emergency. We had applied topical flea treatment to his neck and he had an allergic reaction causing his airway to become blocked. Banfield treated him and he recovered (hooray!). Years later we took him to Silverdale (uh oh). On the intake form I explicitly wrote in the allergy section that he is allergic to topical flea medication. They tried to give him topical flea medication. Thank god they were out that day. When I picked him up, they noted they had not treated him for fleas because they were out of the topical they would have used and suggested that I order some online. Aghast, I reminded them that he's allergic to topicals. The technician seemed nonplussed. Not only did they have it in their records that they treated him originally for this but I also wrote it on the intake form and they STILL almost gave him a medication that would cause a life threatening condition. We cancelled our plan a few days later. No more Banfield! Lastly, I just went on Chewy to order more of our prescription food for our other cat and what do I find? Our prescription, the corrected one I had to hound them to obtain, is not a full duration prescription. The erroneous one they issued is good for a year. The corrected one that I hounded them for ... only good for three months. Even a month after cancelling they are still negatively affecting my pets health care. Thanks for the wasted time, stress, and...
Read moreplease learn from me and do not take your pet here. i lost my soul cat at a routine visit for her dental cleaning and sanitary shave. i dropped her off not knowing i would never see her again or never get to say goodbye. they called me saying that they had trouble doing her comprehensive before putting her under anesthesia and that they were going to complete the comprehensive while she was under. they called me a couple of minutes later saying that they had an emergency with my cat and asked my permission to give cpr. they tried. cpr and it did not work. i have so much respect for vet staff and know that these things happen. however, my cat has had this routine visit a total of 4 other times and was okay. the phone call was incredibly traumatic that followed her passing. telling me that she was brain dead and all of that, and immediately asking what i wanted to do with her remains. the following days i got a voicemail when they referred to my baby as a he and didn’t even care to know her gender. i think they cared a lot about covering their own butts about the situation, and again i do not know for sure what happened and it may not be their fault but there was a lack of care before the anesthesia and the phone call was unprofessional and traumatic. andy was my soul cat. she was my first cat i got on my own in college and she got me through all of life’s ups and downs. i miss her so much. my world is shattered. she was my baby. if you can afford to please take your...
