I wanted to love this place (and did for a while), as the variety of machines available is pretty good (even if the quantity of some is limited) and the location of the gym itself is very convenient for me.
The gym itself is fine. It's the billing, customer service, and communication that need a lot of work in my opinion.
My attempt to cancel was horrendous. I had my card info stolen and had to get a new one - due to this, and the fact that I just wasn't using the gym as much as I had prior, I decided to cancel, well before the next charge period.
I went in person, asked to cancel, and was told that they did it for me. I asked for confirmation there would be no additional charges, and I was assured there would not be. Instead of canceling, they eventually sent me to collections for "unpaid charges", despite the fact I had paid every single month up until I canceled, and had no additional bills sent to me and absolutely zero attempt from them to contact me (no emails, no phone calls, no snail mail, absolutely nothing). This was OVER A YEAR after I had canceled that I was sent to collections by them. You would think that they would at least attempt contact - or even realize that it was their own mistake? Especially as they were continuing to try and charge a card that did not even exist anymore (so I wasn't even getting notifications of it via my bank!). If I had KNOWN they were attempting to charge me, despite me being told my account was canceled and closed, I would have sorted it out with them the first time they tried to charge me.
After getting the letter, I wound up calling them to see if my account had ever been canceled and the man on the phone seemed shocked and said no, and that it had been sent to collections. I asked him to PLEASE make sure that the account was actually closed after briefly explaining the entire situation. He had me speak to a manager location who, also unfortunately, seemed to not care at all and was pretty rude about the whole thing, "not our fault or problem".
It seems like others in the reviews have had similar difficulties with getting their membership canceled, and it is really a shame. I was so excited when they had opened as it was on my way between work and home and in an area easy for access for me.
In addition, the locker rooms were clean when I started going here, but my most recent visits included visible grime on tiled areas and in the showers (shower heads for example).
I never really had issue with any of the other guests, and my friends that used to go hadn't either. However, multiple of my female friends told me about disrespectful and rude behavior towards them from some of the male staff, which made them stop going altogether and also canceling their memberships.
I would strongly suggest seeking membership at a different gym. Due to health issues I have not yet joined another, but I will never give my business to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA couple days leading up to Halloween they had a scavenger hunt, the goal was to find a skeleton. I found a skeleton and my prize was a hour with a personal trainer. A couple days later I went to meet up with said trainer, we went over my fitness goals. My goal since i started going to the gym was to gain weight. When I started going to the gym I was very underweight. Over the past year or so I've gained about 10 pounds in muscle, which I'm very proud of, though I still have a long way to go to reach my goal. I made sure to inform the trainer I was working with of my goal of gaining weight, and of my history of being underweight. I told her my lowest was 98 pounds. I thought we'd discuss different ways to achieve my goal, instead I was told I should lose 11 pounds. The last time I weighed myself I was 114 pounds, I'm nearly 5'6". The computer system used to calculate what my fitness goals should be, went off of my BMI ( so, so very outdated and wrong. I am a BMI hater) and did not calculate any other factors. Not to mention there was a big push for me to get personal training 3 days a week at $45 a session. All and all it didn't feel like a scavenger hunt, it felt like a push for more profit along with a guilt trip about my apparent extra 11 pounds. This instance and others is why I canceled my membership. Other instances include: 1.) The older gentleman who stands 4 feet away from me when I squat and stares and my booty. 2.) The blonde lady who will run up to me and my partner, tell me I'm deadlifting wrong mid set, and proceed to hit on my partner. 3.) The older gentlemen (AGAIN) who will stand over me ( shirtless) while I'm benching. Overall some of the gym goers lack understanding of personal space and morals, and the staff only understand getting profits up and moral down. Any people still willing to go, don't do the scavenger hunt, don't bring your partner, and ladies watch out for the older shirtless gentlemen, he is a nightmare...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a member since the gym opened. It was a great addition to the community, especially for people that wanted another option besides the YMCA. Over time, the management has changed multiple times and employees rotate out quickly. My biggest issue with the gym is the cleanliness and out of order/old equipment. For example, the women's locker room has visible grime on the tiles (especially under the hand dryers) and the one soap dispenser is laying on the counter. I also noticed that when I walked in this past week there were about 5 or 6 employees just hanging out at the front desk. Why aren't they cleaning the bathrooms or going around refilling the many empty bottles of sanitizer? I also am super frustrated that after the 5 years since the gym has opened, nothing has been updated or replaced. Cable attachments are old, the cable machines are routinely out of order, and there never seems to be any investing in to new gym equipment (i.e. standing calf raise machine or a hip thrust machine). Another issue I have is the lack of air circulation. Over the summer, the AC was on and it felt comfortable to workout. Now it is stuffy and feels almost humid. Would be helpful to have the air circulating to make it a more comfortable experience. I did appreciate the staff's effort over the summer to create an outside workout environment. It was clever and I was able to take off my mask. For $10.00 and some change, it does the trick. But if you have worries about catching COVID (they don't regulate people not wearing masks), want a clean environment with working and updated equipment, this might not...
