Slidell Army Surplus & Outdoor — Local services in Slidell

These folks have a really nice set up. Considering the floorspace available to them, they utilize it very well. The store is also very neat and clean for the amount of gear contained inside and has a nice clean public restroom. They have everything you can think of for tactical gear and military clothing as well as a nice selection of general outdoor gear. I gave the rating of "its nice", not so much "*". I gave this rating due to prices. Unfortuantely this is going to be the death of local brick and mortar businesses. I am a VERY big supporter of local business vs. online shopping but at not just a mark up but rather almost double the averae online market price for most things in the store there comes a line between me looking out for the other guys wallet vs. looking out for my own and this store unfortunately crossed that line for me. Nice store. I wouldn't call it a "surplus" store. There is a lot of new civilian gear and equipment. They have a nice selection of 5.11 clothing. From the outside you wouldn't think they'd have a professional looking shoe/boot selection. Like most "military" stores they've got they typical selections of military hats, knives, patches. Surprisingly, they have new parkas, coveralls, and base layers. As for gear they have some basic nylon belts and holsters, and a few cheap plastic holsters. They have a lot of ammo cans of different sizes, fuel cans, and canteens. There is a wide variety of military clothing (tiger stripe). The only down fall is there really isn't much for the surplus portion. Surplus uniforms, gloves, bags, or other gear arent carried. Staff are nice though...

The unfortunate thing and this seems to be the norm these days a scarce amount of actual military surplus items of all types gear and uniforms. This is a disappointment. If you have something in mind surplus I would suggest giving them a call first. That being said They do have a good selection of the more popular 5.11 clothing. A very large selection of knives to fit any budget. In the winter they have some good cold weather gear. If you are looking for new and current production uniform items I think the selection is really good. I have never had any issues with the quality of things I purchased.
