Originally I had given MB a 5 star rating but after seeing somethings in the store I knew that I needed to change my rating. Upon a visit to MB one day I was in the produce aisle and witnessed a worker stocking lettuce from his grey push cart. As he put out a few heads of lettuce in the area that his cart was in he then decided to pick up a case of lettuce from his cart, carry it an aisle or 2 over and proceeded to slam the full case of lettuce on top of lettuce that was already out. 😲 He caused damage to the lettuce under the case which causes a release of ethylene gas in the air around them. This ethylene gas then travels to other plants in the surrounding area speeding up the deterioration and causing them to wilt faster causing spoil, rot and waste. The bottom of the case of lettuce that sits on the grey cart is filthy from being on the dirty cart that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in ages and I am sure that this same case has sat on a pallet in the stockroom and on a delivery truck so, God only knows what germs was being transfered. Another problem that I have with regard to cleanliness of the store that grosses me out is, cashier wearing disposable gloves to touch your food, handle dirty money, and bag your food to bring home all while still wearing the same germy gloves. Does the cashier change the gloves with each transaction? Heck No! I have started to shop more and more at Hannaford's. Yes, Hannaford's may cost a little more money but atleast I see that food is handled properly and I am getting fresh produce, meats and dairy plus the store is 100 times cleaner. Market Basket employees don't know where products are 9 times out of 10 and or I get someone who doesn't speak English 🤔 If you're going to hire someone and have them on the floor to work, have them...
Read moreOrdered Lobster at their fish department, and had them cooked there. Brought them back to our home for our party. Everyone complained that the lobster was very salty. Afterwords everyone was drinking lots of water except for one person who was drinking Margaritas.
I called the manager at Market Basket in Somersworth NH. When I asked about the salt content he said “They just throw in the usual salt pack per order.” Then I asked if anything had changed recently and he said “I don’t think so but I’ll check with that department and someone would call me back. Shortly after I got a call from the fish department there, and the person asked about my inquiry. I explained to him that everyone except for one person complained about the excessive salty lobster. He said that”We don’t even use salt in the cooking process “ “The water used comes right out of the pipe”. I then asked if anything has changed in the cooking procedure lately? He said NO. Someone is likely trying to give me false information. I was NOT amused. I concluded that salt is very easy to taste, and someone is heavy handed with the salt. So someone must be lying and it’s Not me. I then informed the person at the fish department that I will be shopping for my Lobster at Hannaford...
Read moreThese folks make it look easy. Every time I'm in here, which is almost every day, I get to look employees in the eye who engage with me in eloquent colloquial banter. Sometimes they just get weirded out that I bothered to read their name tag, but they always warm up. There is not a sour apple in the bunch. As with any grocery store, check your product well, if you haven't learned to look at the date on your yoghurt yet, there may literally be no hope for you in this world. I feel like this MB is more culturally diverse than the Wonderbread twins in Portsmouth, I mean that in products, as well as in people, and I respect that. Hell, I get a kick out of it. I can buy things on a regular that in Portsmouth can only be found at Lo's Seafood(another great store by the way). After all, how many times can you cook a friggin portabello mushroom before you're like, "is there more to life than this? How about some 'hen of the woods'?" This group of people show their pride in their store by keeping it clean, stocked, and full of eager energetic staff. Best green plantains in a fifty mile circle, hands down. What's that? ,you say, hah get some...
