I called ahead to see if Bartone would fix my chain. The person on the phone said, "yes," and to come to the store. I told the person on the phone I would be in within the hour, and they said that would be fine. Despite arriving at the store thirty minutes later, to my despair, the shop was closed. There were no business hours posted on the door, nor an open/close sign. Mind you this was mid week around 1pm (within standard business hours for a retail shop)I came back two weeks later and was greeted by the shop keeper. I told her about my chain and she said she could fix it. She went it to the back and I proceeded to carouse the store. There was a case of bracelets in the middle of the showroom, and seeing a bracelet I was interested in, I opened the case and proceeded to reach in to try it on.The storekeeper came out and yelled at me in a accusatory tone "you don't open my cases!" I told her I simply wanted to try it on, and she continued "you wouldn't open a case at JC penny."Whats ironic is that small business is supposed to compete with big box stores (JC Penny) not on price, but on quality and customer service. I would not reach into a JC Penny case because there would be someone there to assist me. Furthermore JC Penny does not have open cases in the middle of their showroom floor. Instead of properly asking me if I was interested in trying something on, she took a insolent, accusatory tone, like I was a thief. She put a clasp on my chain and when I went to pay ($10) she said she could not accept cards for such a small expense. So I proceeded to a nearby ATM to get Cash. It took another 5 minutes while I waited for my change, as another customer had entered with a repair item. upon receiving my change, I politely apologized for opening the case, yet the shopkeeper showed no remorse for the way she had treated me. The clasp on the chain looks good, but this is certainly the last time I ever set foot in Bartone. Not only is there customer service terrible, their store had very little selection and a mass of low quality items. I recommend Purple Cow, or driving to another town if you want to find a quality jewelry store. Or head up to JC Penny or another big box store where you will find the same items much cheaper, be helped by a polite and attentive worker, and i'm sure treated...
Read moreI’ve been into Bartone to have my jewelry cleaned before, but only recently brought in an item for repair. I inherited an Italian infinity link chain from my grandmother, which was sadly too small for me. I asked if it could be extended and Candy made some suggestions including an extender (which I didn’t want) and buying an anklet (because they aren’t really en vogue anymore and thus prolific/cheap) to permanently extend the length. I was able to find an exact match on eBay and Candy seamlessly soldered the two together taking pains to make the curb chain between the links even in length. She did a fantastic job and was very helpful through out the process.
I see a few reviews saying that Bartone’s has bad customer service and I want to say I very much disagree. Candy’s got that old school Rhode Island vibe - very matter-of-fact - but really she is a lovely and extremely thoughtful person!
I emphatically recommend Bartone’s for jewelry repair! Plus, there is some very cool vintage jewelry in there if you, like me, are into...
Read moreI have just had one of the best jewelry shopping experiences ever.
I visited Bartone Jewelry in the Belmont shopping center, expecting to ask a few question and maybe get some advice on a ring. What I got was so much more. The store owner, who introduced herself as Candy, asked all about my girlfriend, her taste in jewelry, her style and so on; so she could help me choose the perfect gift. The owner was patient, helpful and she made me feel so welcome. She was very patient with me, and I could tell she really knew what she was talking about.
She showed me a few rings until finally we found just the right one! It is perfect and I am sure I never would have found it if not for the expertise and special care that I found at Bartone Jewelry. I am sure that in the future, I will choose Bartone Jewelry for all of my fine...
