It was never a very good mall to begin with. It was small compared to other malls, and the selection of stores for teenage girls was limited. But it was the closest mall I lived too and I often would get dropped off there on a Friday night, my best girlfriend by my side, $50 bucks in my pocket, and a promise to my Mom that i would be good. Alot of nostalgia here; a time that makes me smile sadly. But mall culture is dead. Uniontown mall lasted longer than Century 3 (shockingly). I wonder how Westmoreland Mall is holding out? I tried to browse Rue 21's website a few months ago, only to find out that they went bankrupt and closed their doors. Peachins Express in Connellsville; a neighborhood staple for more then 40 years, closed their doors for good earlier this year. You might remember its parent store with the dirt floors and .10cent burgers located near the old Laurel Mall. Which I just remembered...- The Old Laural Mall! Theybused to be a pretty good mall with crazy colored popcorn and a dirty old movie theater my mom used to take me to. We saw 8 mile there and she made me close my eyes during the "bad" parts. It was so embarassing. Then the Connellsville Rite Aid, a few blocks away closed last month. It makes me sad. I wonder what will take the places of all these old buildings or will they just stand empty and rot away? The internet changed the landscape of the whole world. It will never be the same. I'm glad I got to capture that magic of a childhood with no internet and then became an adult into an interconnected world. I got the best of both. RIP...
Read moreThis mall has slowly been in decline for a number of years unfortunately. When I was a kid, every store was open and it was always busy. However, since the inception of WalMart and Target and stores like that as well as online shopping becoming popular, malls are going the way of the dinosaur. When I was in junior high, the mall was the meeting spot. Now, since Sears, Bon Ton and Burlington's left, there isn't much holding it together aside for JC Penney ... I do still love to go there for Penney's, Bath and Body, Rue 21, the Shoe Dept (though they very rarely carry size 6 or lower in women's anymore), Spencer's, Claire's and Foot Locker. It's also still the main place to take your child / children to see Santa or the Easter Bunny ~ although I just saw for Easter that for a small package of pictures with the Bunny was $42 + tax....
Read moreThose that are giving the mall 4 or 5 stars must have a business there because their reviews are obviously fake. The mall needs to shut down and be torn down. It's dead. Literally. I was last Thurs. and literally saw 9 people in the entire mall (not including workers). I live in a nearby town and it's awful there. Not worth going there anymore. It's a shame to see malls closing but times are changing and this dated place isn't changing with the times. And to the person that said there are tons of stores to choose from, you must be at different mall. Now the stupid mall is closing FYE. The only store worth going there for. Good luck because you're going to need it. They raised the rent for FYE. So much for trying to keep their stores. They need to fix those broken tiles and god awful smell...
