“A Life-Changing Shoe and a First-Class Store Experience”
My husband and I recently visited REI for the first time, and we couldn’t be happier. We were both in need of new shoes and had read great things about the Brooks Glycerin Max 22. We found out that REI had them in stock, so we decided to go in and try them on — and I’m so glad we did.
From the moment we walked in, the store was clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate — even for two people who had never been in any REI location before. We headed to the back where the shoes were displayed, and within 30 seconds, a kind and professional employee approached us. I explained that we were looking for the Glycerin Max 22 in women’s size 8 and men’s 11.5. She knew exactly where they were and also brought out the Ghost Max for comparison.
She was incredibly helpful — attentive without being pushy — and checked in on us multiple times. When she stepped away for a break, another employee (an older gentleman) came by and made sure we had everything we needed. The customer service was outstanding. We never had to track anyone down, but we never felt pressured either — just supported and respected.
Because I needed to use a particular payment method, I purchased the shoes online while in-store and selected in-store pickup, which was fast, simple, and hassle-free.
As for the shoes themselves: I’ve struggled with knee, leg, and back pain since major surgeries in 2018. I was introduced to Brooks by the Good Feet Store when I was fitted for orthotic inserts, and I’ve worn their shoes ever since. This was my first time trying the Glycerin Max 22, and it exceeded my expectations — it feels like walking on a cloud. I couldn’t be happier.
My husband had never tried Brooks before, but after a year and a half of hip and joint issues, I strongly encouraged him to give them a try. His main concern was that he always needs wide-width (2E) shoes, and the Glycerin Max doesn’t come in a wide option. However, after reading on Brooks’ site and customer reviews that this model runs roomy, we decided to take the chance and try the standard width in store.
To our happy surprise, the standard width fit him perfectly — in fact, it was the first time in his life that a standard-width shoe worked for him. He immediately noticed the comfort and support. We both walked out with the Glycerin Max 22 and have been thrilled with them ever since.
We purchased lighter color pairs to go with our current outfits, but we’re already planning to buy additional darker pairs soon for other occasions. Some colors were out of stock at REI, so we’ll be ordering online either from REI or directly from Brooks.com.
I’m incredibly grateful to the staff at REI for their patience and knowledge, and to the woman at the Good Feet Store who first introduced me to Brooks. While I know other brands may be great for some people, nothing has come close to the comfort and performance I’ve found with Brooks shoes — especially for people with pain, joint issues, or mobility concerns. If you’re struggling with walking, alignment, or chronic discomfort, I highly recommend trying Brooks — and REI is a wonderful place to...
Read moreBear with me on my long review XP . I type it because its deer to my heart xD .
Though I'd like to be a paid review/get some sort of compensation because I'm a bit greedy(I am not paid or getting anything from this but joy as I think of my experience), I type this review because I truly feel it is worthy time spent and hopefully the staff gets recognition for so.
I have spent over 2 grand at this store and plan to spend more. Staff is outstanding and products are quality products.(All products are subject to change based off of reviews like us reviews, which means they care what we think.)
I suggest if you do want to have an in depth conversation about your upcoming adventure getting an outfitting appointment booked like I did because I did have a lot of questions/lacked info on what I was looking for. I have seen another review that was only 4stars because "the lack of staff", I would counter and say usually they have plenty of members in the store to lead you in the right direction as far as where products are and brief oversight. They are though limited when attending to so many visitors on high demand days so patients it key. (If the staff needs more people I hope they are capable of voicing that to the appropriate people and would be supplied with so because they seem to be valued, no one in my experience seems forsed to be there which says alot.) That being said, set up an outfitting, they will be upfront and honest about what days and hours are best for that. (That also being said procrastination is not others falt, leave room for others valuable time if its important and you need others opinion ). The store is big and has a lot of options, some are experienced and others are just dabbling into adventure in the outdoors, to which ide say REI is a great asset to have. They have great in store learning opportunities and plenty of online options to learn and explore to help aid with things beyond heading into the store. To lead back to what I had mentioned about an outfitting option. It might not be the friday or thursday grab for last minute trip on a weekend as demand by some without patience opinion but an appropriate time they can be completely involved and attentive to your needs of wanting the best suggestions and expertise for your upcoming adventure. Over all I would say REI is a great place to shop for outdoors adventures, this location in proticular(others I've been to are just as good) but based of recent experience this store and staff is great. A big thank you for all those who are in this location and a hopeful tip/review for those who plan to visit this...
Read more08/22/2015 - Had two REI tents - HC4 (2008) and a Half Dome 2 person (2010). The rainfly attachment Velcro's had de-laminated during our camping trip a week ago. Both the plastic weld and the sewing re-enforcement had given way on the attachment points. It was making the rain-fly very difficult to use. I had called custom service to see if repairs might be covered by their limited lifetime warranty. They informed me that I would need to take it into a store to have someone review the issue.
The manager took a look at the damage and informed me that they could either offer a full refund for both tents (since i could provide my original proofs of purchase) or hook me up with the company that does all their repairs (since we are members). Since my family had already outgrown both these tents we went for the full refund on both tents and took what we got back to pick up the kingdom 8 for our future camping needs.
My wife was extremely sad to see these two tents go because they have been absolutely awesome with many great memories. That said we loved the service that REI was able to give us. The manager was very patient with all our questions through the different options and very clear in providing us with our options.
We are fully satisfied customers (as we have been in the past) but I had to post since the customer service just blew us away (given that one tent had been purchased in 2008 and the other...
