Racist treatment- do not go to this store. My brother bought me a cast iron brasier with lid from this store for my birthday- but the lady sold it to him without a box. He got it because he knew I would like this color and apparently they didnāt have any in stock in a box (pretty sure that could have been a lie as youāll see below).
After taking it home, taking off the tags and washing it before use, I realized the lid doesnāt actually fit right- it leaves a gap. So I went back to the store with my husband and brother to get it exchanged. The lady at the counter (who sold it to my brother) was clearly unhappy as soon as we walked into the store. I showed her the pot and lid and she said she was going to get the manager.
Mickael Salvatore Hennan was probably the rudest person Iāve ever met. He basically tried to tell me that all of the pots and lids fit like this and when my husband mentioned that this lid would let steam out, he told us āyou definitely donāt use this for steamingā. Uh itās a braiser! And itās none of his business how I want to use it.
My husband brought the same pot/lid in a different color that was on display to show how much better that lid fit, with no gaps. He basically just ignored that.
Anyways then he goes, āwell thereās no way Iām giving you your money back!ā
I never asked for my money, I just wanted a lid that fits. I told him I want to exchange it. He found one in stock and brought it out. At this point I should have just demanded my money but I didnāt push it because I really had just come to exchange it.
He takes it out of the box and says āis that better?ā
Yes! It actually fit. But then get this- he gives it to me WITHOUT the box. So I ask him for the box- and heās like āyou brought it in here without a box, you get it without a box!ā What a piece of work.
The lady had sold it to my brother saying there werenāt any in stock with a lid- but hey, this manager found one. My brother had just come one week prior on June 14th. So either she lied or it came in stock this week. I doubt that because this guy was like āoh, I have ONE in stock.ā
Anyways the point is that this guy had the nerve to show me that this pot came in a box but heās going to give it to me without the box- to stick it to me I guess š¤·š½āāļø
Mickael Salvatore Hennan and that lady (if I find her name, Iāll add it here) are extremely rude individuals. He gave so much attitude to me, my husband and my brother- for what? A lid. Iāll be calling Sur La Table HQ or wherever is higher up to report this. I would not shop here or recommend going here to anyone until they fix their attitude or change their employees. What a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI attend the macaron baking class around spring each year. This year the instructor Jacqueline was signed up to teach this class, but another instructor was present at the class on 3/26/2022.
I loved attending this class because it was so intensive, learnt about the history of macarons, different styles of European macarons, detailed technique and plenty of other information about baking macarons.
This time the class was quite different. There were many more people per group which was very busy.
Some of the ingredients like the almond flour were not at room temperature which is so critical. So instead of sieving it three times as necessary, we barely did it once, then the teacher told us it's not so important so to skip the step.
The teacher did not explain the details of the technique, I felt she was was new to baking macarons herself. She did not mention the importance of having precisely the correct amount of wet and dry ingredients, instead told us it's ok to be messy and lose product. From past experience I know it's essential to have the correct ratio of ingredients. The critical process of macronage, needed to make good macarons, was not even mentioned. Neither any mention of drying the shells process prior to sticking it in the oven.
We used parchment paper and drew circles which was a terrible idea as the class ended up with a majority of broken macarons. I think someone missed cleaning the silicon baking sheets which were used in all my previous classes as they were sitting dirty in a container hidden under the table, so I'm guessing no one noticed them there.
Every teams macarons came out a disaster. Not a single team went home with good macarons. The teacher blamed it on the oven at the Southlake location. She told us that it's impossible to bake good macarons at first try; yet all the other classes I attended previously at SLT, our macarons came out great because of the details we were made to follow during the entire process.
Since I have attended this class before and had such a wonderful experience I turned it into an annual event for myself. I'm sad that I cannot return to this class as the teacher is inexperienced. SLT should not be charging people to attend a baking class with such poor level of instruction and so many students per class....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was so excited to take the Holiday Tamales class with my mom. She bought it as a gift for me. I called ahead of time to ask if they had a stool that they could bring out for my mom who is partially disabled, they said yes. Great!
We got to the store and saw that the previous class was wrapping up so we walked around the merchandise for a bit. Once the class had left and they started preparing for ours, my mom walked up to the door opening and asked if we had to check in. The chef yelled at her and told her couldn't she see that he was cleaning? And berated her. She walked away and we waited for our class to start. It was 20-25 minutes late!!
Once it was started the chef made a snarky comment about us. AND there were no stools in sight. Anyway, my mom said she would try her best to stand for 2 hours (after we had already been standing in the store for about 30mins.
Disappointed in the class. For $89 per person you don't get to make the masa, and the horchata that was on the class menu we didn't even get to make or taste. Not to mention all the sauces were made by assistants in the class not the paying students. All we got to do was make 2 fillings and stuff and steam the tamales.
We stood around a lot with nothing to do.
I enjoyed the time with my mom but I will never take another class there.
Bonus: they were cleaning the tables tops off over the food set out for us to use. The water was not refilled for the class and we ran out of what was put out. And the classroom...
