Not sure what the owners were smoking when they decided to put a skating rink on top of the splash pad and leave it there all year but it's a really stupid idea.
When it was a fountain/splash pad you could find several families (at a minimum) there on a warm day, nearly every day. Since they put that skating rink in I can count on one hand the number of people I've seen use it at one time, regardless of time of year. I come to this mall several times a week at various times of day (others are too far or far less safe even during the day) and have seen the difference first hand.
Families want a place they can take their kids and let them play and have fun on a hot day. Not to go "ice" skating with the sun beating down on them and a white surface blinding them!
It's bad enough the store space is way over priced and many of them are vacant, but they got rid of the one thing that was guaranteed to draw large groups every day the temperature was over 80 (which is pretty frequent here).

Read moreThe Eastern Shore Centre is just to the East of the Eastern Shore of the Mobile Bay, which is located on the East side of the City of Mobile which is about an hour East of Biloxi, MS and an hour West of a Pensacola, FL. All of which are located within the Southeastern portion of the United States of America. Fortunately, these areas are North of the Gulf of Mexico which helps tremendously with flooding - although not entirely. The final point to note here are the facts that the Eastern Shore Centre or Center as we A’merkins call it - is located approximately 750 miles due South of Chicago, Illinois and 750 miles due North of Felipe Carrillo Puerto Quintana Roo, Mexico. Just to the East of Chicago is Lake Michigan, but just to the East of Felipe Carrillo Puerto Quintana Roo is a place called - Sian Ka’an - which is - “Gate of Heaven.” You can thank me for this information...

So many of the good places are now long gone. Such a shame. I believe that many of the businesses left due to exorbitant lease prices - many closed/left well before the Pandemic, but I know that we also lost a few due to the Pandemic too. Places that I miss the most are; Twist Cupcakes [they were to die for], Charming Charlie, Forever 21, and even VS. I still enjoy the Eastern Shore Centre though, but we mostly just visit California Dreamin', Half Shell, and the Bookstore nowadays. One time a person put plastic stick-on google eyes on all the bronze statues throughout the mall.... it was HILARIOUS and...
