BUYER BEWARE - “expiration date” tampering
I was looking at the Taiwanese sausage in the freezer section and noticed that all of the bags with the exception of a couple were cut at the bottoms. Upon closer examination the ones that were not cut showed a Best Buy date on the packaging. This date is a couple months past the current date. I saw the some dates that go as far back as January of 2022 (it is currently end of July 2022). Now this wouldn’t be that big of a problem if it was properly displayed and marked down as such, but someone went out of their way to cut off these dates on the bags in a way to hide the “Best Buy” dates of the product. The product clearly has been sitting there for quite a while as the product itself is starting to have ice buildup. I’m sure they are still edible but this kind of behavior is unacceptable and should be investigated.
Photos attached: top two were the only two bags with Best Buy dates, the rest were cut off as shown in the bottom bag. There were around 10 bags that were cut. You can see there is no heat seal texture on the bottom of the bag, which is where the date...

Read moreI hit up 99 Ranch Market recently, hoping to snag some canned jackfruit in water or brine. No luck there – only the syrupy stuff, which just isn't what I wanted. They had fresh jackfruit, but honestly, who wants to deal with all that stickiness? The seafood section was where it was at, though. Prices were decent, and most of their seafood comes from farms in Ecuador and Mexico. I spotted some really nice frozen turbot, and then I saw it: whole Atlantic salmon for $4.99 a pound! We're talking 4 to 8-pound fish with natural, light pink flesh, no fake color. That was hands down the best deal of the trip. Oh, and they had uni in the clearance fridge, which is my jam, but I'd never risk sashimi from a clearance bin. The rest of the store, like produce and the regular aisles, didn't have anything that really jumped out as a deal. But still, for an Asian grocery, 99 Ranch Market is super well-stocked for its size. If you're looking for specific Asian ingredients or produce, I'd totally recommend...
