~ Short version Great store; but Andy is another story entirely.
~ Elaborations Overall it's a wonderful store: Ron, Mike & Justin are all friendly; and treat me with basic human respect.
However... Andy (the store manager) is another matter; entirely.
I'm pretty sure ALL of the negative reviews are in regards to Andy. He's either specifically mentioned; or it sounds like his behavior. I can't imagine the store having any negative reviews otherwise.
(incidentally I'm betting Andy is the one reading and responding to the reviews)
Up till now... I've always just laughed off Andy's chronic rudeness and lack of professionalism; and moved on; But I'm just going to lay it out. Because 1: I feel remiss not warning people about Andy 2: I want to delve into that in context of ā[but other than that it's a wonderful store.]ā
...
Andy's tricky; because on the surface he can be very welcoming, helpful; etc⦠To such an extent that it throws me off every his true nature shows.
Very often he cuts people off mid-sentence and over-reacts to questions that are (to him) stupid⦠as well as gives unrequested bitter commentary about musicians that are more accomplished than him. (I was thinking "I was asking about a guitar. not your opinion of a musician.")
Also hearing him be a know-it-all arguer with the Store Owner (about whatever thing he thinks he knows more about) is pretty unpleasant as well.
A couple of weeks back⦠I bought a tuner... I'm not the most practical guy; so I periodically ask questions that even I think are stupid in hindsight. I asked "do any of these have a warranty?"
Now I figure the mature response would've been "No."
The response I got? "ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! IT'S A $20 TUNER YOU BUY ONE IT BREAKS YOU BUY ANOTHER ONE!"
me: "...It's just a question dude."
note: I wasn't even talking to him. I was standing at the front counter talking to Mike. But Andy felt the need to holler his thoughts on the matter - from across the room - constantly... Instead of letting Mike deal with me; in that he was the one I was actually talking to.
Then there was also the matter of... I brought a guitar in for a set-up. I don't clean my guitars. I just don't think about it; so it never gets done.
He charged me $20 extra because he "had to" clean it first. Never in my life have I had a guitar tech take issue with my guitars not being clean.
but; Ok: Fine... I get it: Andy is very prissy about that sort of thing. To me... That's not the issue: That's his prerogative. To me the issue is I got a quote for the work to be done. I left the guitar and then when it was time to pay... an additional fee was tacked-on; with no agreement for that additional work/fee. To me... - the appropriate thing - to have done - would be: Contact the customer and let them know "[This guitar needs to be relatively clean before I will work on it. You can do it your self; or I can do it; but that'll be an extra $20]"
Full-disclosure: Andy recently (passively) kicked me out (so yes: this review is biased) "You're also free to leave" "Wow, really?" "Yes really." "... ok man."
Now I've always taken my shoes and socks off at the jams. It's just my thing. I like to feel the ground with my flesh; but more to the point: Andy never said a thing about it; but this time Andy wasn't having it. Which is fine: His house, His rules. and I told him so... As I was putting my boots back on.
I'll say that again: I was verbally-affirming that he was fully within his rights to have that standard ...AS I was complying with it. The issue to me is I had them back on I had complied. (again: past tense) However he was STILL being babbley-drama about it. Which was annoying⦠So for better or worse I said: "Dude, all you needed to say was ā[Iām going to need you to put your boots back on.]ā It's fine."
and that's when he passively kicked me out (by telling me "You're also free to leave.")
So my sentiment is: Great store; but Andy is another...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would like everyone that may read this to know that this business has absolutely NO AFFILIATION with Lee Hight or the original Musicians Pro Shop in Springdale. The fact that they are trying to use the name as their slogan is very disappointing to me & my family and misleading to potential customers. Please quit trying to profit off of my dadās legacy.
Edited to respond to your response: First, the response you gave me here and the response you gave on Facebook present two different ideas: one playing dumb and one asking permission. That alone shows your dishonesty. At least be consistent. Second, my uncle Larry did not own the Musicians Pro Shop. Heās an easy going guy but he cannot give any real permission to use a name of a business that he did not own. I do not blame him for this though. Third, the fact that you are sticking to the legality argument just shows that you lack morals because we are well aware that what you are doing is not illegal. My family has been reached out to numerous times regarding your awning and billboard by people that are furious. I worked at a music store for 6 years in the area and met dozens and dozens of people who told me they knew my dad and shared great stories about him. Your narrative that āno one remembers the business 25 years laterā is very rude and naive to say. Iād be willing to bet that no one will remember Remix music in 25 years. Last, you could have used your response to apologize, show empathy and explain yourself in a much better way that I wouldāve respected you for. Instead you chose to gaslight me and be defensive. As a local business, you depend on your community to pay your bills. Angering your local community is the last thing youād want to do. This is a bad look for you and it will come back to bite you at some point....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been in here multiple times through the last few months as I've gotten into the guitar and bought my first few pedals from here and everyone who works here is so nice and welcoming... except one guy. I came into look at some pedals for a new guitar I had ordered online but didn't have yet but they were out of the main one I came in for so I wandered around looking at all the guitars and amps. I saw a guitar similar to the one I had ordered and I was so excited for it I couldn't help but grab it and play it and see how it feels. The main guitar tech was in the same room working on something and he politely said "you can plug that into an amp if you want it sounds better that way" I didn't want to be in there too long so I just said oh it's fine I got one of these on the way just wanted to mess with it for a second and then he got annoyed and said "so you ordered one online and came into my shop just to play around on mine? Way to support small businesses man. Really good job supporting small businesses" it felt like I was just stabbed in the chest he just sucked all of the joy out of me so I sat there silently for a second hung the guitar back up and walked out. As a college student working part time I have to look for good deals and it was extremely unprofessional to try to make me feel guilty cause I found a better deal online and was still willing to buy other things such as an amp from here. I will never be returning again. So good job supporting small businesses by pushing...
