It's good for what it is.
Re-gaining muscle and stamina I lost during a year of doing nothing (2020) has been challenging & rewarding and has improved my physical and mental health dramatically. Although redundancy (i.e. number of similar weight machines) is low, the weight machines and other workout assistance tools are well-maintained and upgraded regularly. Ellipticals, treadmills, etc., have a much higher number available simultaneously. As a (city) government building, the CRC's schedule often coincides with that of city hall. Fortunately, however, it's open most of the time, six days a week (no Sundays), from 0500 to 2200 (5am to 10pm). Excluded are early closing times when it's been rented by someone else or for pool maintenance/etc.
Members can attend fitness classes of all descriptions and types (stretching, resistance training, yoga, of multiple disciplines and descriptions, both the kind done wearing appropriate exercise wear and yoga on paddleboards/swimming/etc. in the pools (swimwear/appropriate attire also required)) without any additional charge, on a first-come first-served basis. If a class is full and people who registered for the class don't show, people are accepted into the class based on their order in any on-call queue hoping to gain entrance.
The restrooms are regularly cleaned and maintained, but I've never found a tissue or towel on which to wipe my nose or sweaty arms/forehead aside from toilet paper in a bathroom stall, the sanitizing wipes for use on equipment, or my already-probably-wet sweaty sleeves. The hand dryers in the restrooms are high-speed air turbines that turn on when you put your hands underneath them and turn off when you remove your hands. Multiple family changing rooms are available. They contain fold-out baby diaper-changing platforms on the walls as well as sinks, toilets, and small wooden benches (one each for every square family changing room, supposedly also usable as showers).
The drinking fountains/bottle refill locations purify water and dispense it to help prevent water waste. When you refill a reusable bottle, it prevents new single-use bottles from being used, I guess. If you leave your bottle under the refill spout long enough that it spills over and some enters the drain, the water turns off automatically. If you have no bottle, just press the bar to activate the fountain.
The upper area with treadmills, a 3-lane track (often misused and abused), ellipticals, stair stepping machines, free weights, benches, weight machines, and a separate room filled with spin cycles and overhead UV lighting if you prefer it to the ordinary lighting, can get noisy if kids are playing basketball below and you're in the area directly above the courts when the kids playing do a lot of loud shrieking and screaming.
Caveats: My experience dictates the content of my review, which might change as experience/etc. changes.
I haven't entered the large indoor pool areas (the one with slides and pools and a flowing river of resistance and a hot tub off to the side or the large competition pool with diving boards used for laps school swim team competitions and water polo, among other things) or the exterior pool area which is open during warm weather.
Likewise, I've little experience in the mirror-walled, wooden-floored dance/exercise room (it looks like it works well, as I've seen when it's in use) or the children's area or party rooms. Also, I've never been in the elevator for any reason, so I lack requisite knowledge to review that.
EDIT: I haven't been there since 29 June 2023 & feel extremely sore & out-of-shape, sleeping most of the day each day as a result of ever-present exhaustion which was relieved somewhat by increased stamina provided by exercise. Mental ability has declined concomitantly and DRASTICALLY (!!). ARGH!
I don't know how to contact the people in charge. I can't enter the property, even during...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy review is only based on the Child Watch facility the rest of the Recreation Center is amazing and I love the HABIT class. Iām so sad that Iām possibly going to have to cancel my membership due to the fact that Iām unable to use the child watch. Itās a complete waste of my time. The child watch is $2 an hour which sounds like a great deal only I would be willing to pay triple that to get decent workers who are not teenagers in there. Every time I take my 2 year old daughter who has seperation anxiety (which is extremely common in two year olds) I have to pick her up from 5-10 minutes after dropping her off. I warn them every time that she will cry! Here is what I always come back to. The associates havenāt moved an inch! They literally are sitting in the exact same spots as when I left. Did they even try to play with my child and make her feel comfortable? I have a suspicion they did something like āwant to play doll? Want to color?ā That might work on a shy 4-6 year old but itās not going to work on a toddler! Maybe hire some adults who have children or even teach these teenagers that they need to get off their lazy butts and interact with the child. My husband when he gets home in time for me to go to a class at the rec center (which rarely happens since he works 10-12 hour days) has to also deal with her separation anxiety she misses mom itās normal you know what he does he gets on the floor talks to her and PLAYS interactive games with her and she is always fine. I would be more understanding if their were so many children at the child watch that they couldnāt give that kind of dedication to my child but their has not been when I have gone every time their has been less than 4 children total and 3 teenage employees. I think one of them can dedicate themselves to helping a two year old warm up. Also five minutes of a child crying and then you call me? Really? My other complaint is one of the days I put my daughter in child watch the girls were reluctant to turn on a movie for my daughter and when we left they re-turned on girl meets world which they were obviously watching when my child was checked in. Get better workers in child watch (Iām not the only one who has noticed this Iāve talked to a few other moms who also wish they could use the child watch so they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo this reveiw had been before i signed up for child watch for my 3 year old. I've been signed up for 3 months for a child watch where you could just go in, drop off, and work out. Well, today i go in, and they say "oh you need an account to drop off." I say, "Yeah...ive been signed up for 3 months? "Oh well, you need an appointment." OK, but I've not needed an appointment before? "Well, we have too many kids and can't without an appointment." OK, then cancel my account for child watch cause im too high anxiety to always wonder if I'll have a spot or time to work out. So she cancels it and immediately counts the heads and says "oh we do have room." Ok, so you can watch her? "Yeah, but now you'll have to pay 2.50" Hahahaha, I walked out cause that is scamming and extremely scummy.
They don't care about you, they care about the money they can take from you.
The moment I didn't have an account for child watch, suddenly there was enough room?
Also, to mention this same girl was the one who signed us up and on the website, paperwork and everything it says the child watch is 25 for the month. When she signed us up, though, she said it was 30 and no papers or websites have been updated, but that was the price.
With what's happened now, im fairly certain that was a bold faced lie. Cause even now the website will say 25 for the month, 10 more for each additional child.
What is listed as 30 dollars is a babysitting course for 10+ where they are supposed to get a backpack of supplies and lessons in babysitting.
So, to any trusting parents who also thought the girl was being honest, I'd recheck your account and make sure you are signed up correctly.
I come here at least a few days a week to work out. The way the machines are laid out is nice with how the cardio and weights are separated. They have a separate area for a cycling class that is usable to those who want to cycle in a dark sectioned off area.
My kids love it and are always begging to go again to swim. They love the diving boards and the slides.
Buying a pass was a good idea and fairly priced for a small family whose kids are older and...
