I've been here twice (rude server on second trip). Both times the food was great. Their fries are made to order and have a light batter on them where they have a great flaky crunch on the exterior with a perfectly soft and hot inside. The chips and queso is great! Nice and fresh. The friend I went with ordered a veggie burger and he said the cook made the common mistake of over-cooking a veggie burger until it was browned/burned which is actually too far. But he still enjoyed it. The first time I went I had the fish and chips and the crunch on the fish and the fries was perfect! Best I've maybe ever had anywhere! And I've lived in great areas for restaurants (LA & SF). It was crunchy, super hot. On my second time, my dad tried the fish and chips and also reported that it was perfectly crunchy. While cooked to perfection, they do lack much flavor though, and get it only from the sauces you dip it in.
Be aware that their food portions are huge so you likely won't fit dessert.
On the second visit, I had a bacon cheeseburger which was nice and juicy but lacked seasoning, though dipping it in the fry sauce helped that. But why, if someone orders a burger and fries would the customer need to ask twice for sauce to dip the fries in? Who wants naked fries? I also am not a fan of serving a ton of raw onions on a burger.
The second visit was unfortunately ruined by our server. The first visit was great and she handled everything perfectly. The second visit, the server was very aggressive. We had just sat down and hadn't had a chance to look at the menu yet. He immediately tried to get us to order the spinach avocado dip appetizer, our party hadn't even been able to look at the menu yet. I looked at him and said we'd like a minute to look at the menu first. His response was "oh, you don't want any appetizer?" That wasn't at all what I'd said. Jumping to the extreme opposite was irritating. I again asked him if we could have a minute to discuss what we wanted. He insisted that we should ask him any questions we had about appetizers... But we hadn't even had 10 second to look to even have any questions. I again asked for more time to look things over and he finally left us. I was there with my aging parents and from the start he kept referring to us all as "kids" like "hey kids, how are you tonight?" As he walked away I expressed I wished we could get another server. Most servers are very much "have you had time to look over the menu... Do you have any questions..." Rather than trying to force us to order an item and when asked for time to review options jump to the opposite conclusion that because we didn't want what he suggested, we must want no appetizer. So pushy! I hate that. But that's only one bad apple in the bunch.
The server ruined my experience. I really dislike aggressive servers and/or servers who try to be overly familiar, and I've never had one insult my parents by referring to my obviously aging parents as "kids" - that's not funny. If a 350lb man was there and the server referred to him as "slim" it's basically the same. I think this establishment serves some of the best food in the area. But they need to exorcise themselves from the very pushy and rude waiter who wouldn't take the hint to just let us be to decide on our own what we wanted. "Hey kids!" everytime he spoke to us - to adults in their late 70's? Not funny. Not cute. Not appreciated. Let that guy go. He repeatedly referred to my mom as "sis" and me and my dad as "brother"... WTF. Be a professional, man. It grated on me everytime he said any of his bizarre "friendly banter" since it was insulting. Just be real and learn how to read a group. If they are giving you side eyes for the insulting comments, how about you realize it isn't appreciated and just stop? He had to have heard me say I wanted a different server but kept going full steam with the fake familiarity. He ruined an otherwise great night out. I've never had a more obliviously rude waiter. I genuinely think he thinks he was being folksy and fun. No. Just stop it! If mgmt...
Read more"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise, even given some significant lapses on this visit. We came here during a major snowstorm early in the Winter hoping for a late breakfast. It didn't look open, and considering it was Sunday it would not be a surprise if it was closed. But, when we tried the door it was open. There was no breakfast, just lunch. We ended up with a very sad meal at Cracker Barrel. So, I went today (Sunday again) assuming it was just lunch. We arrived at a pretty busy place doing a Brunch. Bravo.a There's a lot of things looking real good, but when I saw that they cook the burgers medium unless asked to do otherwise, I was like - Score! That implies they grind their own meat. It will tastes like meat. They will cook it to order.
"it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness," I suppose it was foolish of me to assume that when they say they cook their burgers to order, that I could get a burger medium rare. Lots of pink and red in the middle. They've also changed the menu recently. They used to have a burger that you could put additions on. Now they feel they need to have burgers with lots of things on them. A simple burger, or cheese burger, is not on the list. They did let me order the fancy burger without all the extra things on it. It's not the most cost effective for me, but I ended up with the burger I wanted. Well, if it was cooked correctly. The first burger was well done. The second one was medium well. The picture makes it look like it's medium, but it's not. The first one was all dry. The second one, mostly dry. That said, it tastes like beef, but as in all chuck. I don't taste an accent cut added like brisket or shank to give it more flavor. If I want to gamble another time, I'll ask for nearly raw. Then it will probably come out medium. The onion rings I upgraded to were truly excellent.
My wife got the steak nachos. They were fantastic. Some of the other things I saw around the restaurant look great. I'll just skip burgers. As others have said there can be issues with the service. It looked like a number of tables had servers that were around at appropriate times. Our server dropped off the food and disappeared long enough that I ran out of ketchup in the little container and the rings mostly went cold before she showed up again. I was also out of beer, and had just been waiting since I wasn't going to eat the burger. Even then, we had to flag her down. After getting the check it was far too long before she came back to pick it up. Overall, she was never around.
We asked before leaving if the beautiful patio was small dog friendly. We were told absolutely. I can't think of another place with an interesting menu. Good beer, and a dog friendly patio. That alone give them an extra star.
Finally, the beer is all 4%, but it's really good. And being low alcohol, you can get it draft. I had a saison that was very crisp and nice. The over the top IPA was indeed very hoppy, although not as out of balance as the description would leave me to believe. It's worth coming just for the...

Original Review: Strap Tank has been a go to spot for us on several occasions and we've usually had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, our recent visit to celebrate my birthday with family left us with a somewhat bitter taste. Once we got seated we had barely sat for 10 minutes when the waitor abruptly insisted that we place our order. When we were looking at drink options and asked about lemonade he stated that they have lemonade without the "s". My wife informed the waiter that we were there to celebrate my birthday his response was far from what you would expect. He remarked well happy birthday but we won't be singing to you and this is the last you will hear of that from me, in an unkind tone. This left us all feeling quite uncomfortable and unwelcome. We told the waiter we need more time to look over the menu before ordering our food. He began suggesting various menu items and saying does that sound good? His approach throughout the evening seemed as though he were treating us adults as if we were children. After paying we were still seated at the table, the waiter abruptly removed our receipt with the tipon it and remarked hey I need my pen in an rude tone. This interaction was not only rude but unprofessional. The pushy and condescending behavior of our waiter left a sour taste in our mouths. It was very disappointing to have such a negative experience during what was meant to be a celebration. We hope these issues can be addressed to ensure these type of situations don't occur. What was meant to be a nice night out celebrating turned into something very...
