A fantastic find and hidden gem! I was pleasantly surprised to find it while walking through the Dulles Town Center Mall. After talking to the folks outside, I decided to give it a whirl.
The best part was the people who run it. A number of creepy clowns await outside and were doing a great job interacting with the crowd. They were funny, friendly, and of course just a bit unnerving. The "normal" staff was also great. I only got one of their names (Ashley) but she and her co-workers were super helpful and for me, patient. I am visually impaired so I was not sure how the experience was going to be but it was very good.
The haunted part was done extremely well with several jump scares, creepy sounds, fun actors, and dark, twisty hallways. Some parts are very dark. The set pieces are PG-13 so not for small children. They do offer "chicken necklaces" but since they touch no one, I am not sure the value of those. To me, those neon necklaces allowed me to have a bit of light to follow (my vision is pretty poor in dark light and those wearing it helped me not get stuck in the darkest parts).
I highly recommend this experience if you want a bit of a fright this season. It takes about 15 minutes to go through the maze. I had no wait time but it was at 3 pm, right when they opened. I hear it gets crowded at night. I think this is partly driven by their only being open 3 days per week. They are there through the week after Halloween though so there is time.
Thanks to all the folks who put this on. I did not think I was going to be able to do a maze this year but they helped me do one of my favorite things and it is so convenient there in the Dulles Town Center Mall. I highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to many haunted houses over the years. I love them. Always have. The only problem I have is that I don't get scared anymore. I still enjoy them immensely on other levels. Scare loco did something different. They allowed me to be scared again.
First off, it's almost a maze. You have the ability to make wrong turns and they will let you suffer for you choice for a bit. Finally scaring you into making the right decision by popping a disembodied head out of a trap door on a wall that you didn't notice before.
Then, it's really really dark and in some cases pitch black. I won't spoil it with more details but just know that this sets the mood.
Lastly, the timing of it all, from the lines to the haunt resets, to when the scare actors pop out, is top tier.
For the first time in a long time, I was scared and just wanted to make it to the end, and I freaking loved it.
Sorry, no pictures. Was too busy running...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went with my 7 year old son and husband last night. I'm sure some people were judging me for taking a younger child, but my son loves haunted houses and had a blast. If you've gone to the Halloween haunted houses at Kings Dominion the scare factor seemed similar imo. I do wish we had bought the cut the line passes as it took awhile to wait (and i have a broken foot...poor planning on my part.) I do think the price was fair for the event. I do think they need to time groups a bit better because it got bunched up at the end (which makes it way less "scary." (why i took off one star)
also, we bought beer tickets but every time we went over to the bee garden there was no one there to take our tickets , so i wasted my $20 (I know i could have gone back inside and asked for my money back but didn't want to be a "Karen") my husband did the axe throwing they had there too and he loved it overall it was a...
