The Book Oasis — Local services in Stoneham

Excellent little used bookstore crammed to the brim with mostly mass market paperbacks but many hidden gems can be found.

Took some time finding a parking spot on a side street as it seems smack dab in the middle of a busy intersection with minimal street parking but it was worth it. Wandered in to a surprisingly cool room with classical radio playing, always a calming addition when perusing for books.

First searched the classics section and found Nine Stories by JD Salinger and then The Plague by Camus, always heard it was a good one. Browsed some more though didn't find the Nonfiction section as there was A LOT of mass market paperbacks (think romantic novels and crime thrillers), sol asked one of the owners (husband and wife team | suspected) for any works by Don Delillo, a favorite of mine currently. He lead me over to the rack and even found Ratner's Star. A bit too tattered for me but ended up with a newish copy of The Third Policeman, already started it and it's pretty good so far! Though small in footprint, this excellent used book store is mighty in the number of titles it carries! It has extensive sections of used books, with a well-chosen smattering of new ones as well. There is parking in the rear. The proprietors are extremely well-versed on their stock and happy to help you find exactly the perfect book for a gift or for you to read yourself. Fun fact: the Book Oasis stands just above the site of a former Underground Railroad stop!

Service, selection, and a warm staff, are just a few reasons I continue to return. Huge selection of romance novels, great cook book section, as well as non fiction, which my mom loves. Hours that accommodate anyone's schedule, so no excuses, you need to stop in! They were kind enough to hold a book for me. The owners wife remembered I inquired about another tilted she didn't think they had. She asked her husband and he found it. So when I went to pick up the book on hold, it was so nice to find they held the second book too. Always great service and enjoyable...
