I don't like to write bad reviews, I try and give people the benefit of the doubt. However, after thinking about this situation all day and still being upset, I decided to write this review.
I entered Macy's around 4:30pm and was originally looking for their fur section. I didn't find it, but I also didn't ask. It wasn't a big deal. When I first came in, they had all the displays for makeup and perfume with tons of testers sitting out. Since I didn't find what I was looking for, I decided to check out the perfume. I had just bought the Gucci Flora Jasmine set elsewhere and decided to start at that counter to smell the other ones in that set. I have just started to get into higher end perfumes and am looking to start up a nice collection. Next to the Gucci perfume is Perfect Marc Jacob's. While I am using the testers, a worker comes up and asks if I need any help. I tell her I am just looking right now, but if she has any test strips, I would like those. She has me some strips, and as I am testing the different scents, she goes around the counter and removes all of the testers. She does this only on this counter, and like I said, this is during the middle of the day, so it isn't like they are closing. I try and ignore this and ask her about one of the scents, asking if there is a set for it. I typically want to get a set if they are available. She directs me to a display on the side, and as I look over there, she goes and removes the testers I was just looking at so now there is no more testers sitting out on this counter at all. I asked her some more about the sets and then asked to see one of the Burberry perfumes. I actually wanted to see all of them but stopped at one because I am not going to ask for each testers when they were all just sitting out 5 minutes ago. Also their was something off about this lady's body language. Like you know when someone isn't thinking that highly of you. Now I am currently 33, and I haven't been treated like this since I was in high school and in a goth faze. I still have colored hair, tattoos, and percings, but also, this is 2024, and I thought the whole judging someone on their looks was a thing of the past. This isn't to brag but only to say I had the money. I make good money, and when I go on a shopping spree, I typically spend around $600 at one store and sometimes up to $1000 on a day out. That isn't like crazy money, but it is definitely enough for me to buy the 3 to 4 bottles of perfume I was looking at and wanting to buy. But given this lady's attitude, I won't be returning to this Macy's and will be shopping elsewhere. This type of behavior and attitude should be a thing of the past.
I will also say I went to Ashcroft & Oak Jewelers and was treated with nothing but respect. They had the customer service this lady at Macy's needed.
I wasn't there to freaking steal your testers and if you are that scared of thief then do what sephora and other stores do and tie them down but don't make my shopping experience crap because of your...
Read moreMacy's used to be my favorite department store; I appreciated the wonderful selection and excellent customer service. However, during my last couple of trips, I've noticed a dwindling selection of menswear, and a growing number of items mis-shelved or missing their price tags.
Today's visit proved the worst. It was Tax-Free Weekend, during which all clothing items priced below $75 are to be tax-free. I found three neckties -- priced between $5 and $10 -- which I wished to purchase. (The Ohio Department of Taxation, which administers the Tax-Free Weekend, specifically names neckties as an eligible item.) However, after purchasing the ties, we discovered that we had inexplicably been charged sales tax on one of them. We returned inside, pointing to the error, and the cashier snippily informed us that all three items were ineligible for the tax-free weekend. That was demonstrably false, given that two of the three rang up as tax-free and the one that charged tax was the one whose price she had entered manually. She then attempted to tell us that, since neckties aren't for school, they aren't included in the Tax-Free Weekend -- which is also false, since 1) they were being purchased for school, and 2) neckties are explicitly listed on the state's list of tax-free items for the weekend. She returned the items & tried running them through again, but again the tax was there. She shrugged and essentially said there was nothing else she could do, so we decided to leave without purchasing any of the items. Ohio's Tax-Free weekend is not optional, and it's clearly a draw for many shoppers; the employees should understand how it works, not cop an attitude when customers note that a mistake was made, and not blame customers for their...
Read moreFirst time at the Macy's store at Strongsville Mall. The first thing is as soon as I walked in I was approached by employees trying to give you something or sample an item, which I don't like. For me the store on the first level is a bit overpriced, the second floor is more reasonable but still pricey. I had a Macy gift card from years ago and decided to use it. I checked the balance on their website but it would not let me check it. It kept saying that there were not enough numbers. After several attempts I decided just to go to Macy's and make a purchase and use whatever was on the card. Mind you the card was given to me as a gift ( $25 ) and I never have been to a Macy's store. After picking up a few small items totaling around $28 and standing in a line for 20 minutes or so, I found out, from the cashier, that there was a zero balance on the card. How could this be? I tried calling again for a balance on the card, in the store, and got the same response that there were not enough numbers. I walked out very frustrated, upset, and...
