Welcome to Cinemagic, we're the worst game in town! You're stuck at Cinemagiccc! BOW This movie theater was a long time in the making. Years ago, there was a large debate in Sturbridge over whether to build a Walmart or a movie theater. Eventually, the town voted, and the Walmart that is currently in town was built. For many years after this, many people in Sturbridge still wanted a movie theater to be built. Cinemagic was built after the store Linens and Things was shut down a couple years ago. While the idea is good, maybe Cinemagic shouldn't have moved to Sturbridge. With tiny movie theaters, audio levels loud enough to literally rumble and vibrate your organs, extremely rude staff members, and unaccommodating, crazy managers, this cinema freaking sucks. While they do show modern movies and some classics because they're desperate for money, this theater has consistently suffered from these issues. I know for a fact from an inside source that the reason why the sound is so ear shatteringly loud during movies is because the theater is trying to compensate for its lack of surround sound speakers. They do have them, and they are turned on during movie previews and advertisements. However, they are deactivated when the movie begins. The real, main reason why the surround sound speakers are on the walls is to give the appearance and impression of there being surround sound the entire time. Cheap and stupid. If these speakers were left on for the movie, all of the audio from the other theaters playing different movies would bleed into one another, creating chaos. Understandable why they wouldn't turn them on then, but maybe this issue could have been resolved if they simply didn't build a movie theater in an old Linens and Things with thin as your grandma's dentures walls. On the subject of the staff here, they seem bored, unenthusiastic, and disinterested in their jobs. One day, I went to see a movie with my family. After we bought our tickets and entered the theater, we realized it was completely packed. There were three of us and the only seats available were singles or pairs of two in the very front. We exited the theater and told a manager. I asked for a refund and she told me no. When I said this was ridiculous, the manager raised her voice and told me that's "just how it was" and that I needed to deal with it. When I told her that her behavior was insulting and I should be getting my money back, she threatened to call the cops. WOW. She eventually replaced my tickets with ones for the movie at a later time, and I left the cinema. I didn't attend the later showing and contacted the CEO of Cinemagic. They were very apologetic and said they'd speak to her about this issue. I had to go back to the cinema to get the free tickets the CEO gave me as an apology. However, I'm never returning here due to this occurrence. My inside source has confirmed that the manager I dealt with was her manager and she forever hates her. She left the job after a while because she just couldn't stand the place anymore. And that, my friends, is why I go to Blackstone Valley now....
Read moreThe theater, lobby area and restrooms were clean. The seats were roomy and comfortable. The sound quality was decent. We purchased tickets online and found it easy to pick up at the counter. The concession staff provided good customer service.
I was not impressed with how an issue we had was handled. Our theater had a handful of disrespectful teens making a lot of noise throughout the movie. I missed part of the movie, as did 2 other patrons, to report them. Only after the 3rd party complained did the staff actually come in and say something to the kids. The movie was in its final stages at that point, so the experience was ruined. Management never approached any of the complaining parties, nor did the staff members we reported the situation to offer an apology for the disruption. The consensus in the theater after the movie was done was that we should have gone elsewhere. We all understand that kids will be kids, but it was not handled in a...
Read moreSearching for a movie theater in the region gave limited results so we settled on Cinemagic. We were not impressed compared to the quality we are used to in other cities. The first disappointment was that seats could not be reserved in advance which seems very out of date. Second, there were some open seats when we arrived, but when we started to sit down, we realized one of the seats was broken so we had to relocate. Third, the seats do recline (more accurately, they rock back and forth), but the arm rest only could be tilted as far back as the seats in an erect position. Finally, there was something unusual about the screen that hampered the quality of the movie. Scenes that should have been cinematographically interesting were fuzzy and blurry. Bottom line, the quality was well below what we are accustomed to elsewhere. In the future, we'll try looking for a theater...
