I'd have done zero stars if possible. They simply don't understand the importance of helping a rider on the road, especially one in the middle of a timed event. Not cool at all. At all.
Will NEVER darken their door again. Incredibly rude staff and possibly not competent. Long story short, my friend was in the area on a big ride that is timed, so every minute matters. He wanted fresh tires before heading into Canada and onto Alaska, but since it was the tail end of the Sturgis Rally, most shops were slammed and many didn't have much in the way of parts or tires.
On the suggestion of a friend who used to work there, I tried Sturgis Motorsports. The service guy I spoke with was GREAT! They had 5 different tires for him to choose from and opened at 7:30AM the next day when he'd be there, actually, he'd be there much earlier, but we figured it be a good opportunity to rest a bit while waiting for the shop to open. YES!
Well, that went terrible when 7:30AM rolled around. First of all, the person who greeted him at the service bay was awful. After complaining to the general manager, turns out he was a loaner employee from another store during the event and he was promptly sent away when the GM reviewed the video footage because it was that bad.
Further, tires were never mounted. Why? Because they claim that there's some special tool needed for this particular bike and they don't have it. This mysterious tool seems to only be known by people at THIS dealership. No one else on the planet has heard of it or knows anything about why they would be unable to change the tires. I absolutely told the person who took my call the make and model of bike, no question or red flags were raised. No, they let us waste about 5 or 6 hours trying to give them some business. He even tried to just buy the tires and try to find someone else to mount them, but the shop wasn't even interested in that. Makes no sense to me at all.
We wound up using an independent shop in Kalispell that I would HIGHLY recommend. This guy went way out of his way to make sure my friend was taken care of. Another friend drove down to Missoula to pick up tires from the dealer there just so we KNEW we had tires that would fit and Don at All Moto Tire in Kalispell opened up at 10PM on a Saturday night to make certain he got what he needed that Sturgis Motorsports completely and totally dropped the ball on. Now, he didn't even buy tires from Don and he STILL opened up late at night on a Saturday to help a rider who was mistreated at Sturgis motorsports. The only thing I can imagine as to why they treated him so badly is that he was on a Harley (Pan American, uses the same tires as a BMW GS) and figured they don't care about Harley riders. Well, I think we all know we shouldn't make assumptions about people. We aren't Harley people at all. In fact, that dealership carries the brands we usually ride. Too bad they lost us as customers and we'll be telling all of our friends and anyone who will listen to STAY AWAY from this shop.
What did the GM do to try and make it up to him? Send him a tee shirt and hat from the shop. "Hey, yeah, we screwed you bad, man. How about you advertise for us?" Yeah, not gonna happen! We'll find a use for these items. The GM might not approve, but we don't approve of his shop's service, so sounds like...
Read moreSummary: Recommend without hesitation for both purchase and service of used BMW motorcycles. (I have no experience buying new or with other brands but my bet is that the quality of service is the same).
I've been a customer with them since 2018 when I became the owner (private sale) of a 2007 R1200GSA with 88k miles on it. I had no experience with the bike, it was a windfall of sorts. The folks in the service department were incredibly patient with me and my questions. Their suggestions and service prepped me for a couple of wonderfully uneventful cross country trips. Circumstance forced me to sell the bike with 103k miles on it, never an issue. I moved back to the area last winter and was casually looking for a "goldilocks" motorcycle (one that was old enough to be affordable but in good enough condition for me to be happy with it) and, I was surprised to find one at Sturgis Motorsports that seemed to fit the bill. There was some back and forth negotiation but I ended up with a great bike for a lot less then what I could find via Facebook or Cycle Trader! After I took possession of it, I noticed that one of the fork seals was leaking. I brought it by the dealership hoping to get a discount on new ones but was very pleasantly surprised when they replaced them for free.
They are in Sturgis, so know there might be someone reading this that is a long way from home and maybe dealing with something they wish they didn't have to deal with. Based on my long-term experiences with this business, I can comfortably recommend giving them a call. They can probably help you out and not take advantage of your situation in...
Read moreWent in there to get a carb rebuilt since I'm not to familiar with all that figured these guys would do it. I told them the year of my bike which is an 05 and they gave me a date to have it brought in. so I brought the carb rebuild kit with the carb since I was able to get it off they told me it would be done in 2 hrs. I waited 2 days and didn't get any calls had to call them to figure out what was going on. they then told me bc there was 2 diff kits I brought in they didn't even wanna try seeing if the parts would fit at all and didn't wanna do the fix less the bike was there so they didn't put on the wrong carb rebuild kit and it not work then me have to take it back. I then offered to have my bike towed there and then they told me oh well usually around this time were always really busy and we don't usually work on bikes that are 10 years or older bc of rust and stripped screws. first off the parts I took off to get to my carb nothing was rusted only issue was the carb screws some were stripped for taking it apart but you would think them being professionals they would've been able to get them off easy just with more effort but they didn't even bother trying smh. so bottom line if your bike is 10 years or older DON'T bother with these guys yes they were nice but they wasted my time and now I gotta figure this crap out myself and I've only been riding for a year so thanks for nothing and wasting my time...
