Food is very disappointing here. At first glance, it looks like this would be a wonderful place for food.
The market itself is small, but with lots of great products. Their selection of tortillas is awesome. So as a Mexican market, itās quite a gemāin my opinion the best in Sun Prairie.
I wish I could say the same for the inhouse food counter. I tried the food on a couple of occasions.
My first try, I ordered a torta. While the overall taste was great, the torta was so watery that it very unpleasant to eat. I had that as takeout, and ended up having to eat it with a knife and fork given it was so wet. It was simply impossible to pick up, having a consistency similar to mashed potatoes.
My last attempt (and it will be my last) was yesterday. I ordered a carnitas burrito. It was without a doubt the sloppiest burrito Iāve ever had. As I ate it, the ingredients oozed and dripped out into a puddle. The tortilla wrap was stiff like it hadnāt been warmed up. And all the fresh ingredients (lettuce, guacamole, etc.) were ICE cold giving the burrito āzonesā of hot/cold. Even worse was the carnitas meat. While it was flavorful, it was actually very chewy and tough. With one of the bites I took, i couldnāt chew the meat, needing to separate my bite from the rest of the burrito by hand. I pulled the meat out with my hand only to discover a slab that was sliced similar to ham. Tough, chewy and sliced, this ācarnitasā (normally slow roasted, fall-apart tender and sooo flavorful) was unlike any other Iāve had, and certainly something Iād never want again.
One more thing, my burrito was served with two small packets of salsa sealed in plastic pouches (also ice cold), so itās doubtful they make their salsa in house. All the other Sun Prairie Mexican markets with food counters Iāve eaten at make their own salsa.
So to summarize, great market, very disappointing food counter. Shop, but eat elsewhere.
Other reviews mention the tacos. I never got to try them. Based on my other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLos PĆ©rez has changed for the better. When they first started it wasnāt as organized as it is now and the employees are a lot friendlier. They have also created a loyalty system for those that buy from their taqueria. You can order on your own on an iPad like device & you get a text message once your food is ready. The owner is also frequently there and tentative to any issues. He is very involved and it is slowly but surely showing....
