After I posted my Google review, the community manager Molly called me the next day, before this none of my earlier emails or texts had been answered. During our call, she shared a few points (quoted verbatim for reference, though you can judge for yourself): My review wasn’t “seeing the bigger picture” because I only polled 105 residents, whereas the building has thousands. They’d been working behind the scenes to help, but hadn’t informed me, so I was “in the dark.” High-rise buildings commonly have this kind of vent noise, and some residents may never have lived in one so wouldn’t recognize it as normal. My emails went unanswered because their Outlook system was down. When I asked if the Google review prompted their outreach, she insisted it had nothing to do with it.

That same day, maintenance arrived and fixed the issue in about five minutes - it really was an easy repair. I requested a follow-up email summarizing our agreement in case the problem recurred, and I asked about reimbursement for the sound-insulation pads I purchased (which I wouldn’t have needed in a quiet unit), but I haven’t heard back on either.

I’ve updated my review to two stars because the noise is gone, but the slow responses and the feeling that residents must escalate issues publicly to get action remain frustrating. The location is fantastic, but leasing’s slow, reactive approach makes problem resolution unnecessarily stressful.

Please sound on and watch the video i recorded.

I’ve never heard anything like the relentless scratching and rattling coming from my kitchen vent. It’s been 10 days since I moved in and the leasing office insists “it’s normal” while offering zero fixes. I moved to The Martin specifically for concrete construction and better soundproofing, not to live next to a malfunctioning vent that screeches at random intervals. I recorded over 50 dB on my sound meter (illegal in California!), and also tried stuff acoustic pads and insulation into the cabinet myself, and it’s STILL unbearably loud.

I’ve moved from city to city and lived in over 10 different apartments, whether in high rise buildings or lower‑floor family apartments, and I’ve never had an issue with a kitchen hood vent until now. But The Martin keeps insisting it’s normal. They even said I’m just too sensitive to noise. Excuse me? I’m the resident paying luxury rent here and I’m simply asking them to fix the problem, and they say it’s my fault?

Every time I follow up, I get empty promises and crickets….updates only happen if I corner the community manager in the hallway, no response to either my emails and texts. Meanwhile, my sleep, work-from-home days, and sanity are on the line. I have friends live here too and I also polled over 100 residents in our group chat: nobody else has this issue. Clearly it’s a botched installation or a loose duct piece. I even sent the email include the DIY fixes on YouTube for maintenance reference, yet leasing refuses to even try. It should be very easy fix!

I tried to stay patient and polite, but this level of negligence and dishonesty is infuriating. Until they actually fix this, I wouldn’t recommend The Martin to anyone who values peace, quiet, or a...

As a new resident, I want to share my experience.

The building is at good location. Rooms in certain units has great views. But the management team needs improvement. The quality of appliances is questionable. I originally choose this building because the location and the supposed-to-be quietness, however the unit unexpectedly has a vent and fridge issue.

Before move-in, after securing the unit, I want to tour the actual unit before sign the lease. The actual floor plan is different from the floor plan showing on the website when we apply. The leasing office told me that I could see the unit once the old residents moved out. Actually they said the room would be ready to show on Sunday, however when I was here, the room was not ready. Then they emailed to let me stop by on Wednesday, however when I arrived, the room was still not ready. Then they made an appointment to let me see on Friday but when I arrived they let me see on Saturday morning. Yes, I visited 3 times but still not able to see it. This is the day that is 2 days away from moving in.

Upon move-in, dryer filter is not cleaned at all and clogged with thick dust, likely accumulated over 1 year. Washer has dirty towel left inside. I have to clean it myself. Consistent and nonstop noise in the bedroom comes from fresh air vent, which sounds like airplane flying over. When I sit in the room, it feels like sitting in an en route plane.

After move-in, within less than 1 week, refrigerator is not cooling at all. A large amount of food is spoiled. A new refrigerator is replaced immediately, thanks to Joel, but the new one is problematic. The door shakes when opening it. The fridge has a metal hitting sound. After fix, the noise gets milder but is still there. The noise is heavier when loading new food in the fridge.

When talking with the management about the vent noise, the management originally said that it is normal, also it would cost $$$ to let vendor come to check for it and the vent is not broken, and I should live with it. Vents in high-rise in CA sounds like this. Thank you. Normal vents in neither low rise nor high rise sounds like this. Also, the management said that if I would like to pay for the vendor, they could let the vendor come to check. Excuse me??? Later the management said they could check with owner to see if there is a budget allowing for vendor checking for it. Another option is transfer when another unit is available and ready to tour. Well, the most recent case is that units get rented out quickly before the old tenants moved out. Maybe October and November will be more units available.

I hope I get a new quiet fridge and a normally-working vent in the bedroom, as early as possible.

Highly recommend to tour and see the exact unit that will live at before signing the lease. Rent somewhere with a fair market price and a good management team who will be willing to and actually solve the problem. At bay area, for every dollar spent on top of the average market price, the...

My husband and I have been residents so far at The Martin since August 2024 and have had nothing but stellar experiences with the staff. NO Rental complex is P.E.R.F.E.C.T. and to be honest, some of the folks who have the audacity to leave 1 star negative reviews are ridiculous.

The staff members, FABIAN and GREGG have been nothing but amazing support and staff members to the residents here at the Martin. We've had nothing but amazing help and information from them both as well as the rest of the team, i.e. Molly, Kazra, etc. The complex literally opened less than half a year ago, give them a break. Yes, you could argue they are understaffed but some of the reviews who are calling them UNPROFESSIONAL is just insane. UNPROFESSIONAL to me is a staff member who is RUDE, UNHELPFUL and NEGLIGENT. Which none of these negative traits do any of the staff members embody. THEYRE BUSY.

Literally everyone was told that construction was still going on, NOT ALL the amenities would be ready so obviously you would not have access to them. You STILL chose to move in knowing this information yet complain still that its not ready. If you wanted a place that had all their amenities ready at the start of move in, then go some where else. This was general knowledge from the get go. Have some patience!

Also, this is to Larry Gershire.

Go touch some grass dude. You have 9 reviews and all of them are negative 1 stars which really speaks volumes to your penchant for for being a negative jerk. Where do you get off calling this establishment a CANCER to the city? You're targeting this business and complaining about affordable housing? WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA, there is no affordable housing anywhere. Go complain to the City directly if you got beef. Dont be leaving 1 stars that can be detrimental to a business when you dont even LIVE HERE at the residence. If youre gonna leave this place a negative review then give some actual constructive feedback, not because you decided to wake up one day and decided to be a complete asshat.

"Our society is evil and needs to do better than this." What in the actual fresh hell are you on about? You left a 1 star negative review on a brewery because they didn't have enough umbrellas and you got shitted on by a bird and posted a PHOTO of actual bird poop on the review. Yah dude, the brewery somehow Professor Xavier mind controlled a bunch of birds to take a shit on you and ruin your meal. You called the staff working at the establishment as terrible, like really? You keep repeating the word EVIL in all your reviews.

You called the people working at the brewery NIMBYs yet you come on this apartment residence's review page to complain your mind off about about the literal thing that makes you a NIMBY....

Our freezer failed and spoiled a significant amount of food. When I first reported the issue, I asked whether reimbursement would be possible. The manager told me I could send an estimate, so I did. Then they decided the estimate was “too high,” and changed the requirement to original receipts - clearly assuming I wouldn’t bother. I spent hours going through records and managed to find 13 receipts. Manager’s final response? The receipts were “just for documentation,” and reimbursement still wouldn’t be provided. What made it worse was the inconsistency. During the technician’s visit, I directly asked whether the freezer was overfilled - he said, “it looks fine.” But later, management claimed I had overfilled it, and that’s why the door didn’t seal. The explanation shifted at every step. Honestly, if they had just said “no” from the beginning, I likely would’ve moved on. But asking for an estimate, then receipts, both of which took time and effort, only to deny it all in the end, would frustrate anyone. We’ve lived at The Martin for nearly a year. If nothing goes wrong, great. But the moment something does, it becomes clear: if it’s a small issue, they might help. If it’s a bigger one, they will look for ways to blame you instead. In the Bay Area, time is valuable. What residents need is a fair and transparent process, not a performative one that leads nowhere.

Updates after 4 months - HVAC for building utilities is pretty high, I’ve been to many other apt, but they never charged for HVAC $80 per month. Not sure why this is included in utility bill. So you should expect +$300 at least for utilities and parking on the top of rent fee. - I love everything except high rent and high utilties We love Martin! Just moved to this beautiful apartment a week ago, so far our experience has been great! It’s located in heart of sunnyvale, clean and nice area to walk around at night. There are historical restaurant street in a walking distance just a block away, you can also enjoy your nice night time. I love martin’s high-end quality interior, especially hardwood floor whole unit (I hate carpet) soundproof is amazing, also it’s not cold at all!!! Unit is very warm itself, only one thing I didn’t like was there are fan going on for air circulation purpose, but I think it makes the air dry a little bit. You would need humidifier if you are sensitive. Overall, nice building, location and love wholefoods market is located just a cross a street. Shout out to Fabian and Kasra - they are amazing!
