This was our second time going to this location and both times we felt uncomfortable. Similar to the other reviews, the owner welcomed us in but continually watched us and our every move. I understand that small business owners are apprehensive about the amount of food that is sampled as samples are free and the frozen yogurt, maintenance, rent etc. can become quite expensive. However, it is imperative to note that it is very difficult to precisely control how much frozen yogurt falls into the little cup. What is the purpose of even offering samples if the owner intimidates her customers by closely coming up to them while glaring, warning them about their supposedly big samples? How big can a sample truly get when the cup is so small? That to me, at least, was not good customer service. The reason we went was to buy frozen yogurt and sample the new flavors to see if we'd like them to buy some, but after what she did, I did not want to stay in the store any longer; hence, we proceeded to exit the store, when the owner declared, "hope you enjoyed your sampling experience". I apologized for my "large" samples, but told her to note that it is very difficult to control how much goes into a cup and that other customers may not like what she said. She told me that it was good customer service because it is good to engage with her customers and start dialogue. Although, that may be true, the way in which the owner had gone about doing that was disrespectful to say the least. Then she told us that she knew we wanted to eat for free so that's why she said she hoped we had a great sampling experience. We took two samples. How would that cause the presumption of us wanting to eat for free?! How do two samples fill up someone?! There have been several reviews posted that are similar to this and the problem seems to be persistent. Menchie's is a great frozen yogurt company; however, the customer service at this location should improve. She seems like a kind lady with a good intention at heart as do most people but this is a business and professionalism is key. If customers sampling the frozen yogurt are burdensome or stressful as it seemed to be in this location from my experience and from a handful of reviews, then I would suggest eliminating that service all together. We won't be coming back.
My Reply to owner response: I am horrified by the owner's response. First off, I have no intention of "destroying" anyone's business. My parents are first generation immigrants who own businesses themselves. I would never destroy a business because of their race or think that one is incapable of running a business because of that factor. We asked because we were appalled an owner/manager would be so disrespectful to her customers, proven through the response I received. Second, we do have a handicapped placard which can only be obtained by a doctor's prescription, contrary to the owner's assumption that we like to steal (refer to the "you only came to eat for free" accusation). Third, my mother was agitated because a frozen yogurt owner was rude to her daughter. Any mother would be frustrated when their child is talked down to when they did not deserve it, proven through the several reviews written already. Fourth, I am unsure what the owner is implying by stating that we only took the sample cups when she wasn't looking and that we were standing by the sample cups for a long time. I was on my phone confirming plans with our family members for this weekend so I did not immediately get a sample cup to try. Regardless, the owner was helping customers when I was on my phone so I was not stalling as the owner seems to imply. Again, I am in no way out to destroy the business, I would just like to suggest that the sample system be reformed where the owner hands out the samples or where the option is removed entirely, because this seems to be an issue that many people have experienced. I am very disappointed that I have to respond in this manner, but it's unacceptable for an owner to make false accusations on her...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDrove through the area coming from Chicago, and decided to stop in for a quick yogurt. The first thing you feel upon entering is that something is definitely off. The lady with dark ebony, curly hair (apparently the owner) approaches you and /demands/ that she serves you your sample flavor (one that you are compelled to know before entering). She then serves you, with exact precision, half of a small sample cut and cuts off any excess yogurt if itās too large a sample. I have never seen someone control their āsamplesā in such a way, nor have I met an owner that bashes you for asking for a sample in the first place with patronizing comments such as āyou sure you donāt want any more samples? You know theyāre freeā. After leaving, I decided to check the reviews for this location, and⦠it stunned me to read how others have had similarāto worse experiences with this woman. Iāve seen how she reacts to negative reviews and critiques, therefore Iām sure sheāll read and respond to meā so let me simply say this; if you plan on keeping your business afloat, then I suggest you either a) change your attitude or b) hire employees to tend to your business for you if you do not know to to relate to people, or even properly socialize with them. The people that walk through your door are your PAYING customers. They should not leave feeling discriminated, degraded, or ashamed. Albeit, I know the customer is not always right, but after so many many customers try to reach out and complain⦠maybe itās time to accept that the problem is you. Nobody is superior to anyone. Children will be children, and every person has a different personality. If you cannot function, or handle conversing with different kinds of people, or if serving others isnāt enjoyable to you then you shouldnāt be in the food business.
In response to owner:
I am appalled to see how you keep fabricating lies in order to cover up your negative reviews and save your sorry hide. For everyone elseās information, I was at her shop this afternoon with my fatherā not last night with 4 people. As mentioned in my original review, IM FROM CHICAGO. Here she states (in my stead) Iām from the area. This woman has⦠serious issues. Stay away from this shop. Sheās not in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter going to this location about three times, I have to concur with some of the other reviewers, here. While the owner greets you in a fairly friendly manner, after that she pretty much sat and watched me like she thought I was going to steal something at any moment. To be fair, I like to know what ingredients are in the food I'm eating so I took a moment to read the list before choosing the one I wanted. That said, the whole time I was doing so, again, I felt like I was being monitored as though I was just going to stick my head under one of the machines and just help myself at any moment. It was insane. I never even asked for a sample because I felt so intimidated. Pretty much the only reason I went back the last time was to see if they had a particular flavor I was hoping for. When they didn't, I turned to leave and she kind of heckled me about not buying anything. Weird person. I wonder if she used to work at a convenience store or something because she is crazy paranoid.
Response from owner's reply: Whoa, this is the first time in my life that I've lodged a reasonable complaint with a restaurant and been accused of "poisoning" their business just with neg feedback. It amazes me that because I took my time deciding which flavor I wanted, the owner thought it reasonable to follow my every movement the whole time like I was planning to rob the place. I've been to a lot of ice cream/yogurt places and this has never happened. Even her response to my complaint is creepy. She certainly didn't go out of her way to help me to understand the nutritional information of the food and I cannot believe that it's truly "inappropriate" to suggest she ought to be more forthcoming with it. It's particularly interesting that she insults every person who leaves a negative review, too. Overall creepy vibe about the place. Very unwelcoming....
