I was in Tallahassee on a business trip recently for about a week. Since I am a student of the "Gentle Art" in my hometown of Reno, Nevada, I decided to Google a school in the Tallahassee area that I might be able to drop into and train at during my business trip. This Academy seemed to be the most popular in town. I checked the class schedules and noticed that they did not quite fit my schedule. I called anyway in hopes of possibly scheduling a private class and was greeted very enthusiastically over the phone by Professor Neto himself. I explained my dilemma and he was eager to accommodate my needs. He asked me what my belt level was and if there was anything specific that I wanted to work on. I advised him that I thought my "Guard Game" could use some work.
When I showed up the next day for my class I was very impressed with the layout, cleanliness and color scheme of this Academy. Mr. Neto was busting out some miles on a stationary bike but stopped to welcome me and show me to the dressing room to Gi up for class. Just before my private class was to start I was pleasantly greeted by several students of the academy and was made to feel very welcome. As far as my actual class... there was no dawdling around. Professor Neto had me warm up with some drills specifically designed to help me improve my guard game. After the warmup he specifically targeted techniques and skills that I believe have helped me immensely. I was impressed enough by his attention to detail and teaching methodology that I asked to schedule a second class before I left town and he was happy to oblige.
I want to add that at each class he had one of his students work in with us (a Brown Belt and a Blue Belt respectively) and it proved very beneficial. Both students were very humble and awesome guys and a real credit to the school.
In short... if you live in the Tallahassee area (or just visiting) and you're looking to learn, study and train real, legitimate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from a native expert... look no further than this...
Read moreOur son, age 8 now started taking BJJ classes at Zicro on 2014, our littlest one started the following year and he is 6 right now, they both loved it! They get all that energy out while learning on how to defend themselves and apply techniques. My husband and I started on 2016 and have been hooked ever since. I think, for a mom is not only important and healthy to look fit and feel good but also to be able to defend themselves -that’s a bonus- not only physical but also emotionally and psychologically! Zicro is located near I10 so that’s a great location, their facility is always clean and organized, it has plenty of parking spots, their male and female restrooms are impeccable, they have plenty of lockers, they have gym equipment you can use at any time, weights, treadmills, stationary bikes, even if only your kid(s) are enrolled and you are not, you can still work out while they learn. The staff is friendly and approachable, they really take their time with each of the students; the professors and their assistants -who are also students- are experienced, knowledgeable and caring to the students for the little ones, not so little ones, and teenagers, they emphasize positive attitude and self-esteem development; the adult classmates are very nice, they are on different levels of the sport, yet they are cautious with lower levels who are trying to learn, is not an individual race, it’s a team, it’s a family, like all families we are all different, we have college students, state workers, private sector workers, business owners, stay at home moms, PhD students, teenagers and kids from public and private schools, I mean we have it all! As far as the sport, Felipe Neto is a native from Rio de Janeiro Brazil with 30 years of experience and an incomparable ability to teach Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the techniques are sharp, effective and follow the curricula for Alliance BJJ. The investment is worth it. Give it a try yourself! See you...
Read moreMy son and I both train at Zicro Alliance BJJ in Tallahassee and the experience has exceeded my wildest expectations. Let me name a few points that make this academy, not only the premier Jiu Jitsu school in N. Florida, but a world class school overall.
Professor Felipe Neto teaches every class. This may sound ordinary. But, in many schools, fundamental classes are taught by lower belts. Not so here. Professor Neto takes pride in ensuring that each student gets individual attention Zicro academy pushed for excellence. There is no belt mill here. Professor ensures that the process is well understood and the techniques are performed correctly. Caring environment. Professor Neto brings the Brazilian culture to Tallahassee. He and his wife, Fernanda, truly care about the wellbeing of all of their students. It's common for all of the students to gather at Felipe's home for social functions. Personally, Felipe and Fernanda attended my sons high school graduation Cleanliness. This says a lot about any school one trains in. Zicro academy is heads and shoulders above the gyms I have visited Camaraderie. When you join Zicro academy, you join a group of like minded people from all walks of life. Doctors, business men, college students, and everyone in between train together as fellow students. We are all equal on the mats. We are all family Lineage. While there may be other schools in Tallahassee. None carry the pedigree of Felipe. From his professor (Alliance Founder, Romero Calvacante), Felipe is 2 generations removed from the creator of BJJ. No other school in the North Florida region has a 5th Degree black belt Lastly, all I can say is "come visit us and see...
