$130 for a 19lb. whole bone-in porterhouse section in a vacuum sealed package. It was exciting that it would be possible to actually have steak again, as prices at grocery stores have made it impossible to afford these last few years. To think it was possible to have steak twice a month for a year because of their "very competitive prices". Anyway, the butcher cut them into 20 steaks piled up on two different huge trays. No problem. Problem came when we got home, unwrapping both of those huge trays to separate them into freezer bags to store, keeping four of them out for dinner to finally noticed there was virtually zero marbling. Heart sank.
You can't really see through the plastic they're vacuum sealed into at the store. They're vacuum packed but also wrapped in some type of white paper wrap before they're vacuum sealed in plastic. When they take it away behind the butcher counter and cut them into steaks and pile them up on those thick Styrofoam trays, they wrap it many times in cling wrap so you really can't get a clear view as to marbling still.
Made dinner, and found as I feared would be the case once we got them all out of there wrapping to put into freezer bags and noticed the severe lack of marbling, they were totally inedible. SO much hard thick gristle, and what little meat there was after the bone and gristle, absolutely flavorless beef.
Most expensive meat purchase mistake ever. Shameful it was in fact too good to be true, and massively depressing we're out all that money on a joke.
Obviously will NEVER shop there again, and warn anyone else considering doing so. Shame on you,...
Read moreBack in the late 70's I would chauffeur my late father to the Cattleman's location in the Eastern Market. You could say I inherited my patronage from him. Employees there greeted you with a smile, prices were competitive, and the product was worthy of the visit. Fast forward to 2021. Eastern Market Cattleman's is permanently closed, the prices are still competitive, the product is "decent," but the service, from time to time, is subpar. Allow me to explain.
Recently. Four butchers behind the counter, struggled to acknowledge my presence, (I was the only customer). After breaking their "huddle," I was offered two excuses, by one butcher, as to why he couldn't cut my turkey wings at the joints. Let me say this parenthetically, it has never been an issue in the past. I would have accepted a relatable Covid-19 excuse, but the excuses that were rendered weren't plausible.
Management, isn't this still in your butcher's job description? Please don't let arbitrary customer service, initiated by employees whom do not wish to invest a strong work ethic, ruin your great tradition. My late father would have been very dissatisfied, as was myself. Simply ask them to submit a letter of resignation, or take a day off. Please reiterate the importance of serving the customer with a smile, and...
Read moreThis evening as I was shopping 🛍️ 🛒 at Cattleman’s I noticed that I am 📻 so used to vegan 🥗 🥑 🌱 foods that the red meat 🥩 that my family rarely eats was making me queasy at the sight of it. My nose 👃🏽 started running 🏃🏻♀️ cause it was freezing 🥶 buns in the cooler that I could see my breathe 🧘🏻♀️ I was not feeling social since I strangely felt like I was experiencing “morning sickness” 😷 I rushed out of there just to notice that I lost 😞 my iPod 📱 case and had to go back in. I did a quick scan and counted it a loss, however, Felicia who attended me said that she would do a double check real 👸🏻 quick and got down on her knees to find them under the steak 🥩 sirloin shelf. I couldn’t help but throw my arms around her out of appreciation for her kindness. I get on my knees daily in prayer 🙏🏽 but I was not about to get down on my knees in the freezer and I am so glad 😀 she went the extra mile for me. Kindness is a rare occurrence now in days. PLEASE 🙏🏽 GIVE HER THE RAISE AND RECOGNITION SHE DESERVES. My hands 🙌🏽 free 🆓 device would have been useless and a waste of my money 💸 if it wasn’t for her. THANK YOU 🙏🏽...
