DO NOT BRING YOUR FRENCH BULLDOGS HERE. BREED SPECIFIC AGGRESSIVE DOGS ALLOWED AT THIS LOCATION. I don't normally leave reviews but the situation here was just so upsetting and uncomfortable that I feel that I need to. We brought our dog here for the first time about 3 weeks ago. We are exploring her social skills and getting her comfortable in case we needed to use this facility for boarding when we're away. Everything was going really well, the front desk staff was very caring and understanding of our dog's needs. Things took a turn on Friday, June 13th when I was watching the cameras at work and noticed not 1, not 2, not even 3, but FOUR different dogs MOUNTING other dogs. At first I thought maybe they weren't being monitored at this time but out comes their "coach" using the bubble gun while the dogs are going at it. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for the first hour but then I decided maybe I should call and inform the front desk staff. Only to be told "well my dog is in there and doesn't mind being mounted"... completely dumbfounded, I told her as a paying customer with a dog who has joint issues, I'd like to not come pick up an injured dog or have to deal with any sort of dog bites. On the same day, I noticed my dog being kenneled EVERY 15 MINUTES. When my husband went to pick up Cali, we brought up these concerns to the front desk staff who was just as upset about the mounting but then informed us the reason for our dog being kenneled frequently was because THERE WAS A BREED SPECIFIC AGGRESSIVE DOG PRESENT. NOT JUST ONE BUT MULTIPLE and they were rotating the dogs out in the open area. We requested to speak with the manager that day to cancel our membership (which you can only do with the manager) but never heard back. After reaching out via email 7 days later, I finally received an email stating there were no aggressive dogs and the front desk staff would be dealt with for lying? We scheduled a time to speak to the manager where she back tracked and said the dogs aren't aggressive but have a HISTORY of being aggressive to our specific breed. She continuously denies that they are "currently" aggressive. If we would have been aware, we would have never signed Cali up. Not to mention, she refuses to honor an immediate cancellation and is forcing us to pay for an...
Read moreThis place looks nothing like what is advertised on the corporate website. It is small, dirty, smells terrible, and lacks a lot of the things that made it appealing in the first place. I included two photos of what the facility looks like. Every time I have picked him up he was covered in mud and smelled like feces and urine. He smelled so bad I was gagging in the car on the way home.
I wish there were more windows and larger play areas with more interesting stuff in the rooms. I also wish there were more designated potty areas in the rooms to keep the space more hygienic. The lack of natural light made me feel so sad for them. The dogs walk around all day like prisoners and all have to share food and water, which has made my dogs breath smell horrible after just a few visits.
I was extremely disappointed in the quality of both the physical place and some of the staff members. There has been multiple times where I have checked in on my dog through the cameras and have seen the staff members grab well behaved dogs by the collar or scruff and drag them into crates or away from themselves. My dog was practically traumatized after the first visit and was "smiling" with bared teeth and peed out of fear when they were taking him back the second time. My dog has started flinching and getting scared when I go to pet his face now. He is the sweetest little dog on earth with absolutely no behavioral problems so I'm not sure what would have prompted a negative reaction from the staff.
With how much we all pay for their services, I would hope that money would go toward better staff training, an upgraded facility, or even a complete facility move to better ensure the happiness of both the dogs and the staff. The staff seem to be very stressed at times and I believe a bigger and improved facility would put both them and the dogs at ease.
The most professional and caring member of staff is amber/ember, sorry I don't quite remember her name, but she is what the other members of staff should strive to be. She is passionate, caring, and very kind to pets and their parents. She seems to really care about the dogs happiness, which is very unfortunate in this kind of...
Read moreThis is a copy of the review I left on Yelp. I'm leaving a copy of my review here because other pet parents have the same issues (we talk at the dog parks). So here goes... I have mixed feelings about Dogtopia Temecula. While I like the staff and they are friendly, I question how the dogs are handled in the back. Things to consider: If your dogs are placed in the rooms (Toybox, Gym, & ?? can't remember the name), the dogs will pee and poo in that room. Some 'canine coaches' will clean up right away, while others will leave it for a bit. Note: The "Yard", an outdoor play area, is the best place IMHO. Unfortunately, they will usually only place larger dogs out there during the day and keep smaller to medium dogs inside. They will place tiny dogs in a separate fenced-off area within the "Toybox" room with medium-sized pups. If the pee/poo isn't cleaned up right away, dogs will step, roll, or possibly eat what is on the floor. Your dog may come home smelling terrible with all the pee on the floor. I have had this issue multiple times, which means you will have to wash your dog however many times a week you take your dog there. When you walk into the Temecula location, you will smell what your dog may come home smelling like. I have brought up this issue and was told it was the cleaning solution they use?! If the solution smells that bad, maybe it should be changed? As another reviewer stated, if you sign a monthly contract, Dogtopia will require you to give a month's notice for cancellation. You can ask for a two-month hold on payments (this helps with emergency situations if you won't be using the service), but will still have to pay for an entire month at some point. I like the cameras IF they are working. Make sure you check them often throughout the day. If you see your pup in the kennel, time how long they're in there and call to inquire about it. You can request your dog be moved to another room if they are not getting along with other dogs in their current room. Note: You must call and initiate the move to another room or your dog may end up in the kennel for...
