Outlaw Distillery — Local services in Tempe

Indulging in the flavors and exploring a focused and friendly distillery with my wife has sure been a treat! I have been a scotch drinker for many years and have also tried American versions of whiskey from Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey, to Jim Beam to Bulleit and so on. During this time I have refined my palate to a fine edged sampling device. This is the first and only time I felt completely comfortable, educated not only about distilling in general but specifically regarding bourbon whiskey and what special requirements make a bourbon a bourbon and not simply another type of whiskey. I am grateful that artisans of the highest caliber call their home and establishment near mine here in Tempe Arizona. Their Bourbon is like a swing around the dance floor with a frisky young thing wrapping up and confusing my senses, spinning off flavors of vanilla, oak wood, coffee, molasses and a very scant light note of citrus. All in all I am turned on to a time honored American favorite! Read about this place about a year ago so decided to try it yesterday. Enjoyed finding out about their selection of spirits and the names are all Arizona places/landmarks. The spirits in my opinion are strong. So it was a plus. Tempted to do the tour but we were informed it was very hot in the tour area so decided to enjoy happy hour instead. I only gave 3 stars because the bartender kept offering the 2 other parties (3 males) and 1 male by himself free samplings and didn't offer us (2 women) free samples of a discontinued bottle as well. The bar area was small so it was hard not to notice and feel slighted. I went with the intention of experiencing their selection and to purchase a bottle for my companion as we were celebrating her birthday week. But when this occurred multiple times, I chose not to buy a bottle because we felt intentionally overlooked by the bartender. This place is fantastic! If it's your first time, I would definitely suggest doing the tour and cocktail or tour and tasting special. Overall it took about 30 minutes, but I actually learned so much! These people are passionate about what they do and know what they're talking about and truly want to share their passion. It was actually much more interesting than I had anticipated. Getting to see the entire process was fun and getting to try to end product was great! The cocktails have very interesting flavors, but they have mixers if you just wanted a gin and tonic or vodka sprite with their made in house spirits. We bought 2 bottles to go as gifts and tried a few of the cocktails on the menu.
