I've never been treated worse by a business than when I went to this shop. While I had a short experience, I was treated so poorly during my first visit that I will never be back and would never recommend them to anyone.
I'd been calling all over town earlier in the day to see if there was a local cake shop that carried a specific cake decorating item, and when Blake's said they had it in stock I was so excited to go right after work and purchase it. Their website said they close at 5:29pm, and since I work in NE Portland, I left work a little bit early to make sure I'd get there on time. I arrived at 5:25pm and one of the employees was already locking the front doors, visibly rolling her eyes as she saw me get out of my car. She unlocked the door for me and said, "we close in three minutes." I told her I knew exactly what I wanted and I even called earlier to make sure they had it in stock. When I told her what I needed, she scoffed and said, "that will take forever."
At this point another employee went to the back to get the item. This process took about five minutes and I'm not sure why it took so long to grab one item as it wasn't particularly special. While she was back there, I looked around the store. Leaving this low-scoring review is such a shame to me because it was seriously the most well-stocked cake decorating shop I've ever been in, and I've been making cakes for several years and have been to many shops in Portland. I would have purchased some other items I saw in the shop while I was waiting for my item, but since I was already being treated so poorly I decided to only purchase what I came for.
They could have had a sale that was triple what I came for if they would have treated me like I was a valuable customer - or even just like I mattered as a human being. After checking out, I headed to my car and got inside only to look up and catch the three employees behind the counter appearing to be laughing at me and mocking me. I will never be back and I will never recommend this shop to anyone, and I know a lot of people in the industry....
Read moreI would not recommend taking decorating classes at Blake’s. I took the first and second set of cake decorating classes at this location. Each set of classes was $90. The first set of lessons had 12 in the class. The conference room they use for the classes was barely large enough to get that many people in, let alone all the equipment you need to buy and bring with you to every class. The information they go over is very old school and can easily be found online without spending the small fortune needed to attend class every week. You would also expect to be able to use a kitchen with running water, but that is not available for the class use. Instead you must bring wet rags in zipper bags. Basically they provide you with a conference room table to share with two other people. The room is loud and unfocused. One wall is missing two feet at the top so you hear everything going on in the room next door instead of your instructor. There are two other doors to the room and the staff is constantly running through the room talking on the phone and carrying on conversations that cannot be ignored. In summary I spent nearly $500 (including the class fee) for the two sets of classes and I could have learned it all...
Read moreI've been ordering custom edible images from this store for several years. The product was great and the customer service top notch. In the instance that my image might not have desired resolution, I've always got a phone call to let me know ahead of time. When my image was ready for pickup, I got notified by call or email.
My last two encounters however were not up to par at all. Last week I've ordered an image and never received any kind of notification that's it ready to be picked up. When I called to ask when will be order be ready, I was told that's it is ready.
This week I've ordered another image. My requested size was 5x7. Knowing that I will not be alerted about pickup I went to the store. My image was indeed ready, however the size was 3x4. I asked why they didn't print 5x7, the associate went to the back and than told me that that's an image I sent them.
In case like this I would at least expect a call notifying me to change my image dimensions if they are not able to do it themselves. But unfortunately I am left with an image smaller...
