Need some exercise? Then go to Menard's because they'll give you the run-around. The one 'plus' I can give is they had a product in stock that I couldn't find at other local home centers. Other than that, terrible experience. I had one type of item to purchase. After walking 3/4 of the way around the overly massive store, I finally found the department. I asked a young man at the counter where I could find lap siding. He didn't know. Another nearby employee said where. I was given directions to the location in the separate lumber yard building. I asked if I could drive my pickup around to get the items and was told I could and where the entrance to the yard is. I walk the Green Mile back to my truck and drive to the lumber yard entrance. I tell the gate attendant what I need to pick up. He says, "Do you have a ticket?" Um, no. I was told I could drive in and get my items. "Not without a ticket." His rudeness aside, I was about to my limit at this point...which I not-so-kindly let him know. He said I could go back inside to the cashier and pay for the items to get my pick-up ticket. Keep in mind that Menard's cattle-gates you in certain paths which makes it difficult to get where you need to go, so after reparking my truck, I walked the long walk back to the front cashier area. Upon telling the nice lady I needed to pay for some siding, she said I needed to go back to the far corner of the store again to the lumber desk to get a pick-up ticket. I explained I had already been there, was sent outside and was sent back inside. I wasn't about to walk one more step in the wrong direction. If they couldn't fix the problem there, I was leaving. She cordially connected me with a manager at the front who eventually helped me find the items in the computer and print up a ticket. Sounds like a generally happy ending, right? Nope! I went back to my pickup and drove to the lumber yard. A different gate attendant (and more pleasant) directed me to the warehouse building where my product would be. Now, this place is big enough to drive in about 20 pickups like mine. Some items are clearly and visibly labeled. But, of course, not the siding I want. I walked the length of the building and back again looking for it. Finally found it...on my own...without the help of any employee...because the 3 or 4 forklift drivers running around the area were obviously engaged in activities much more important than helping a customer. Oh, and it's 11% rebate time. What a load of baloney! Don't be fooled people. It's only a ploy to get you back into their store and spend more money. You don't actually get the money back. If they were serious about saving more money for their customers, they'd just reduce the price of everything in the store by 11% and save the customer the hassle of completing the rebate forms and then going back to the store to use it. I have never liked shopping at Menard's and will likely not return unless I absolutely must for a product I can't find elsewhere. I suggest other customers go to a competitor like Home Depot where you'll get knowledgeable assistance from employees who are nearby and friendly...without walking to the back 40...
Read moreUsually a five, but I had an experience that was less than accommodating. Menards sends me a coupon with my bill. Seemed to me that the coupon did not work at the register but when I asked the attendant said "yes it did". Upon looking at the receipt I immediately realized the corporate coupon had not deducted anything off of the product price, the cashier was simply too busy to notice and did not seem too much care. I then went to the manager who spent the next five minutes trying to figure out what was wrong at an empty cash register as my son and i stood by watching. He finally got it to work but by then the $2 I'd saved was completely eaten up by the time I had taken to save $2! I informed the manager of this loss of the bargain due to the corporate coupon not working, and his attitude was yeah, so what, take it or leave it. this was not the first time this has happened to me with a coupon included by corporate in my bill. I recommend you to throw the coupons away because Menards doesn't manage itself well enough to make those work without taking an unwarranted investment of your time. And the Menards management at the topeka store doesn't care how much time you have to stand around waiting for them to...
Read moreI am beyond frustrated. I attempted to rent a working rug doctor machine from this store. Huge mistake! Not only did it take 4 trips to get a machine that worked, none of their hose attachments worked properly. As a disabled veteran, lugging their machines up/down stairs + loading and unloading was more than my body could handle. They supposedly refunded the rental fees, but that wasn't processed correctly. When I tried to get their service desk to actually process the refund, they brushed me off, saying they needed to figure out what happened by emailing corporate. After not hearing back in the time they estimated, I called the store and was brushed off again. I was finally able to speak with the manager, who didn't seem to know the whole situation. How sad that his team doesn't seem to communicate. Every time I spoke with an employee, I stated that I hope their manager is aware of how frustrated I am with this experience. The GM seemed surprised. It seems that my refund has finally been processed after 17 days of waiting. We shall see. We have been using this store for our home improvement projects but this Menard's won't be seeing me again after how I was treated. I hope no one else has...
