friendly enough guy, pretty BMI focused (which is fine if other health/weight metrics are used in parallel, but they weren't in this case), doesn't ask many questions or ask for clarification or extra details, pushed super hard to get lab work at Quest even though my insurance accepts both quest and in-house lab services because the buffalo medical group can bill higher for outsourcing labs. I made sure to confirm there was no difference from an insurance coverage perspective, which the doctor confirmed there is not (both options are covered on my policy). I am frustrated a clinician would suggest a patient's time (for driving to another appointment/location) for bloodwork is less important than the profit of the medical institution. As a scientist and someone who is pretty health literate, I left most appointments feeling kind of meh, like my doctor is somewhat disinterested. Overall pretty easy-going, did not make me feel rushed or belittled/talked down to. Just make sure you are your own...
Read moreAt first Dr Dormandy appeared to be a compassionate doctor interested in my well being until it came time to actually make a diagnosis. I showed up at an appointment complaining of fatigue and difficulty breathing with a history of heart disease. The doctor shrugged it off as grief for a recent loss and sent me on my way. Two months later I was hospitalized. After my discharge he did manage to send me to the oncology department where I met an incredible doctor who took point on my health … something Dr Dormandy should have been doing. The oncologist was concerned and had been pushing for a colonoscopy and endoscopy due to concerns for a bleed. The date of the procedure conflicted with a physical scheduled with Dr Dormandy. I cancelled the appointment with Dr Dormandy. His response? To cut ties with me as a patient. Sounds...
Read moreDr. Dormandy was my primary for a year. For most of that time he was great, sometimes I felt rather rushed during our visits, but generally he listened to my concerns and worked with me to resolve them. After my last appointment I immediately switched Drs. I asked about a weight loss treatment that had promising clinical trial results (saxenda/wegovy) and he dismissed it, basically just said those don't work and immediately pitched me his side hussle "work out program and meal plan" for like $250/month. I said no. In my opinion, that is extremely unethical and unprofessional. He then billed me an extra $80 for a "split visit" which was my free yearly physical, and apparently a "consultation" for that 45 second conversation about his weight loss program he sells...
