The restaurant was quaint and well decorated, looked clean, and staff was very friendly and mindful. The food I ordered for take out was... a bit disappointing, which was Gen. Tso's Chicken.
Nice things first: the sauce was amazing. Their addition of dried red chili peppers (sichuan, I believe?) and I assume jalapeño peppers was genius. Mind, I am someone that eats spicy food almost daily and to me it was perfect level of spicy that enhances flavor; to others who don't eat spicy food, it might be very noticeable. Nonetheless, I found it a perfect combination of sweet, sour, and spicy.
However, the greatest downside of the dish was chicken. Either it was over-fried or was dried up over some elongated period and then reheated... the texture was quite like eating fried chicken that was put in a microwave, got heated too much, and it's then like eating something so fibrous and woody... I ordered it by 7:30 in the evening, but even then it was very disappointing for something that I had paid for.
In the end, you order food from a restaurant for its food; I liked everything about the establishment and its staff, but despite having the best sauce for Gen. Tso's it still came with sub-par chicken. Maybe try this place in the morning or...
Read moreI like to review Chinese Food places on a few criteria: Meat/main dish, rice, vegetables, egg roll. That's what you get from a takeout place, usually!
Meat: General Tso's chicken. Most "spicy" items on takeout Chinese Food restaurants are... not spicy. At all. This wasn't /hot/, but it was the first place I've been to in Buffalo that actually had a smidge of a kick to it. Especially in the peppers. Good for them! The sauce was sticky, not watery, which is always a plus. It tasted great. The ratio of meat to rice was pretty decent, as well. 5/5 (as in, not the best food I've ever had, but easily met and exceeded any expectation I could have for a takeout place.) Rice: Fried rice. Easy to screw up, but this place has good fried rice. 5/5. Vegetables: Less broccoli than I might expect (3 pieces for a dinnner combo) and a bit overdone. Not mushy, but not the best I've seen. 3/5. Egg roll: Tasty, very tasty, and nice and crispy but without too much of the wrapping. Greasy, though. 4/5.
I give this place 5/5 stars because the meat and rice are the meat and potatoes (pardon the confusing metaphor) of a takeout Chinese place. And the meat and rice were absolutely great. The other stuff was good enough not to really detract, I was just...
Read moreI ordered dinner from here earlier today and had a really good experience! I ordered off the website and it was really easy and the menu is quite expansive! My wife and I ordered a few things to try since it's our first time from here. What stood out was the overall quality of the food and the portions, which were quite reasonable for the price. Of what we ordered, the Calamari, Crab Rangoon and Honey Chicken stood out the most. The Calamari had amazing flavor, and was very tender, but had a nice crispy batter, the portion was generous, and it was my favorite item we ordered. The Crab Rangoon was really good as well, it's priced well, definitely seems homemade, and I could be wrong, but it seemed to be using real crab instead of imitation, although I could be wrong. It has a nice, crispy and airy wonton, and a decent bit of filling. It doesn't come with any sauce, although I did dip them in the sauce that came with my Sweet and Sour chicken, and it complemented it quite well. The Honey Chicken was also very good, a nice portion and came with noodles. The flavor of the chicken was really good, the batter tasted good, was fully cooked and the sauce was really good. Overall, it was a really good experience and we'll definitely be...
