Tops Plaza — Local services in Town of Amherst

I enjoy Tops; it is or at least was my favorite grocery store. They are clean and have a good selection. However, they made it to where their cashiers only help you if you have 15 or fewer items, and on top of that, the employees at the self-checkout are very rude, so I've started doing most of my shopping elsewhere.

Whenever you set a paper bag on the bagging area, it'll incessantly beep for like 20 seconds. Every time. I've had employees at the same Tops tell me two different things: some say I have to bag items in my cart, and the other said it looked like I was trying to steal after I put the bag in my cart, and I have to just wait for it to stop beeping. Overall I guess they can neither train enough employees to bag groceries or to even tell other people how to bag...

I still feel Tops can be a little pricey. But I went in to get specials from the ad. Distance was kept quite well, carts were sanitized by their staff, everybody was friendly. My only negative was that I wanted spring water, couldn't find it. Cashier told me where it was, but it was so heavy I could not pick it up & into cart. I wish, in hindsight that I would have asked her to have someone get it for me. I do feel she should have...

I was at Tops on Maple/Bailey. I love the shelf selection at Tops and that is the reason I am giving them a 4. They really need to check the produce more regularly as I saw a number rotting items still on the shelf for sale (not to mention the shelves were sparsely stocked in places.
