Ok people are getting ripped off shopping at Wegmans. I used to shop here all the time, but with the prices that they are asking for many items they are seriously nuts.
I have found a grocery store that is worth taking the drive to and that store I would give 5 stars to for being SO MORE more affordable than Wegmans (for example, there you can get a cookie cake for $6.99 (a great deal) - and super yummy - the same thing at Wegmans its $20.00-30.00!
Wegmans is crazy and NO ONE should be paying those prices. Additionally Wegmans birthday cakes look like crap (take a look at their frosting, it looks so hideous, the color looks dull/muted ugly and honestly you couldn't force feed me one of those). It doesn’t look edible at all. And they charge for a tiny carrot cake the size of your hand between $15 and $17. (which is probably equivalent to one to two slices).
AT THIS other STORE Market in the Square (940 Union Road, West Seneca 14224), if you like baked goods, you will be in heaven - its bakery on steroids. Wow. And affordable (most things). There are a few things I wish they would offer a smaller version of (like their Anise iced cookies are around $10.99, they should offer a half sized box for half the price). I also like that the store is walkable - not having to walk 2 miles (like Wegmans to pick up something in the far back corner).
Also, at Market in The Square they sell Asian food already prepared and refrigerated (like General Zao's chicken, Orange Chicken, Beef Lo Mein, etc.) for HALF the price at Wegmans (about $6.50) which will feed 2-3 people. And they taste good!! I am using Wegmans for comparison because most people know of it, and I have really tried to avoid shopping there (I used to) but you cannot justify their prices. Besides now shopping at Market in The Square my other 'go to' store is Aldi's which also has great prices. Avoid Wegmans unless you want to throw your hard earned...
Read moreThis may sound like a boring answer but they do their job well. The most appealing and successful aspect are the pre-prepared foods with a massive variety from salads, Chinese dishes, baked goods, chicken wings, and more. They have their own sub shop that reminds me of Dibella's. There is a spacious and clean eating area. The area is away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the store. My biggest selling point is the rotisserie chickens that are ready to eat... The price is so low that it reminds me of the Hot dog thing at Costco where they sold them at a loss but it got good word of mouth and people stayed in the store. I do have two complaints and they are my mother's actually... She was actually in sales in the field that dealt with grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations. Her biggest headaches were mostly about where items were stocked and the store owners' putting products in nonsensical locations or catagory systems that didn't jive and people would struggle to find what they need. The other negative is Wegmans is slowly replacing many brands that I love with their own inferior ones. They even do the trick of not replacing a whole line overnight... They start by putting their brands on a middle shelf at the level and putting the brands they are trying to push out of their stores on the highest and lowest shelves. Like I said, my mom was in a similar business so she knows the tricks. Despite all this there is no better grocery store. But the turkey on their subs is not fit to eat... IDK when they changed it but it's awful. Thankfully it's just the sub shop restaurant area turkey that's bad... The various turkey cold cuts at the butcher part of the grocery store...
Read moreCookie Cake Issues: We have enjoyed Wegmans cookie cakes for family celebrations for years. Your recent recipe change has not been an improvement by any means, but we still kept purchasing your cookie cakes anyways. Lately, three out of the last four cookie cakes we have ordered have been undercooked. Not just slightly undercooked, we're talking raw cookie dough, 90% uncooked, even on the edges. They've all been frosted nicely, but uncooked. We returned the first, my daughter's uncooked birthday cookie cake and received a full refund. The second time, my wife's birthday cookie cake, uncooked....refunded again. When I ordered our most recent Thanksgiving cookie cake , I actually had the person who takes the orders write "Please Cook Completely" on the order sheet. When we had our dessert Thanksgiving evening, disgustingly raw cookie cake once more. Friday morning I was back at Wegmans handing them my third undercooked cookie cake in the last two months....along with their order sheet which read "Please Cook Completely". So, we are done with Wegmans. It's one thing to pick these cakes up and then drive back there again to return them, but yet another thing (an embarrassing thing) to serve family and guests a raw dessert at my daughters 16th birthday party, my wife's birthday and again on Thanksgiving Day. You actually call this area in your store a bakery? I believe bakery does have the word "bake" in it? A five year old knows how to test a cookie to see if it's cooked thoroughly. Sorry Wegmans, but your apologies and your refunds just aren't enough. Three strikes...
