I'm sad to say that I had a terrible experience. Purely on skill of promised service... the employees and store are fantastic! This is only a review regarding sharpening services. I had a special request for a professional sharpener and knife expert. I brought in a $400 hand crafted bushcrafter knife with minor surface scratches and chips in the blade. I was told by Chuck that he had the experience, knowledge and tools to get the job done correctly.... with my hopes flying high I left my knife.... only to recieve a call a couple of hours later from Chuck stating that my knives were "tough"... I was pretty nervous about that to say the least... when I arrived he pulled out my knife and the minor scratches on the blade were absolutely buffed out, BUT the blade was do dull that I could run my entire thumb down the edge... normally it would draw blood 1/4 down... now it's a glorified letter opener... not to mention he took a chunk out of my G-10 Micarta handle and left compound in the cracks.... he ended up only charging me $4 but it cost me $400..... luckily I was able to have the manufacturer refurbish it for me for a fee but I'll be without my blade for 3 months and spending more money.... Lesson of the story: DO NOT...
Read moreI visited the store today a bit after 1pm with the intent to purchase a new set of pots and skillets for our new induction range. I’ve done research on the brands carried by Cooks World (Made In, Cuisinart, AllClad) but I wanted to speak with someone from the store about their thoughts on the different brands. We bought our first set of AllClad 34 years ago from CW, and remember the wonderful service. Over the years I’ve stopped by for other items and was never disappointed, until today. When I entered the store customer was chatting with 2 staff, so I went to the cookware section to gets a hand feeling of the pots. After 10 minutes I started browsing the rest of the store hoping someone would become available. I returned to the front of the store, walked past the register, then back to the cook ware section and though there were staff now available, no one seemed inclined to approach me. I came here because I want to support local businesses, but to not even get a nod of acknowledgment,,,, As I walked out the door the scene from Pretty Woman popped up in my mind “You work on commission, right?...
Read moreCook's World has a good selection of cooking and baking equipment, focusing primarily on midrange and higher end brands. Their selection of pots and pans is particularly strong, and their knife selection, while not vast, is better than many stores of this type that I've been to. Pricing is variable; some items are offered at market rate or even a slight discount, whereas others, particularly the less expensive offerings, are sometimes marked up. Staff are usually friendly and available to help. They are generally knowledgeable about the products they offer, though often it is knowledge of manufacturer marketing claims rather than personal or customer experience. That said, the staff can be a good resource; my advice would just be to supplement their recommendations with a bit of your own research if you're thinking of buying something expensive or important. If you're willing to do that, then Cook's World is a great place to shop local for cookware, and as an avid home cook in the Rochester area, I am a...
