Went on Vday 2019. Food is decent. Not the best version of anything we had, but decent. Chef is a little odd though... half the stuff had pistachios in it, including the crab risotto under the scallops and the citrus salad. Said risotto was also a little under-done. Braised lamb shanks came with a horseradish based sauce that tbh was bizarre with lamb. The apple-donut bread pudding dessert was DIVINE, however. Roasted beets appetizer w goat cheese was yummy.
One thing they did that kinda turned me off was charge $48 for three scallops over under-done risotto. A special of course, for the ladies on Vday. So they know no one is gonna ask the price before ordering. Now, 3 or 4 scallops is the right number of scallops. And I just gotta say that we've gotten a hell of a lot of scallops at fancy diners before, and while these were the most expensive we've ever had, anywhere including far nicer establishments, they were at best on-par, albeit very large even for expensive scallops. But the pricing left me feeling like I'd been taken advantage of. I asked the price of the 18oz rib eye ($45) or the 24oz porterhouse ($55), but of course no one is gonna ask about the scallops, which is a dish clearly aimed at the ladies.
Bill came to just about $200 for two ppl, appetizers, entres, and a shared dessert with a $32 bottle of wine and a $30 tip. Not terrible, but then again the food was kinda just adequate for a special occasion. Kinda feel they didnt put their best foot forward, which they should have considering Vday is a good day to capture new customers and potentially their friends. But I mean if in a year someone asks me how it was I'll have to just say "it was OK, the dessert was fabulous, but they charged me $48 for 3 scallops over...
Read moreAll's I can say is WOW! I haven't been to Avvino in a good eight or nine years or so, but I got to tell you, the great atmosphere, welcoming staff and most delectable food has not changed one iota. My goodness, it may have even improved! All's I know, is that next time I visit Avvino, I won't be waiting eight or nine years before doing so again.
In the midst of covid-19 and uncertain times, they were very attentive to my needs, and made me feel most comfortable and secure, keeping everything sanitized and safe. This was the perfect place to celebrate my job promotion. The atmosphere is unmatched- it truly is. It's this elitist atmosphere; you feel special just being there, amongst a friendly fancy wait staff and beautiful decor, and wonderfully presented dishes. It's elite, but not overbearingly so. Not pretentious in the least. And may I say the very least.
My dinner was so delish, dare I say I'm a scallops elitist? My most favorite dish for special occasions and I have been wanting to have a delicious fresh fluffy flavorful scallop dish for weeks now. The owner and staff ensured that I had the best scallops possible! I was even speaking to them on Facebook messenger, in which they were easily accessible and responded to all of my questions.
In this frazzled confusing stressful time of covid-19, it was so nice having that peace of mind knowing that I would have my favorite dish there and that the staff was ready to celebrate right along with me in my new venture of my promotion. Everything was wonderful and I will definitely be back. I feel like this place although it should be a place to celebrate special occasions, it should also be a place to just celebrate life and everyday ordinances. I will definitely be back very soon....
Read moreMy wife and I used Avvino for our outdoor wedding in the Finger Lakes area and we could not recommend them enough. It was perfection from start to finish. Thank you - from the bottom of our hearts. Our only regret is that we should have gone for seconds! We were so impressed with the presentation, quality, and execution given the challenging venue and we are still receiving compliments. Many many guests said it was the best wedding catering they’d ever had.
After a few disappointing tastings with other vendors we went with Avvino sight unseen and without ever tasting their food. We are so glad we took the risk. We worked directly with the restaurant owner Janine, who was so thoughtful, attentive and pleasant to work with. She did a site visit before we entered any agreement, was extremely responsive and solution oriented and ensured that everything we requested was exactly as we wanted. Even though we’d opted for a buffet, the Avvino team brought out special, guest-specific plates of food for those with dietary restrictions. The buffet menu was very well designed and clearly indicated which dishes contained potential allergens.
One of our favorite examples of their attention to detail and creativity was the s’mores bar. The venue had a fire pit, so we discussed the idea with Janine and agreed to add it to the menu, without going into too much detail. We were thrilled to see the most elaborate s’mores setup we’d ever encountered. The team provided a variety of marshmallows in different shapes and sizes, an amazing assortment of chocolate and candy bars, wooden sticks, and more.
