I have had the worst experience with Microworx. I had given them my laptop because it was not charging. For starters, they said that they would call me in 24 hours but received no call from them and I had to call them. After talking to them they say we have run the diagnostics (which costs $45 ) and COULD'NT come to a conclusion to what the problem was. They say it MIGHT be the battery which we will have to replace and check. If that doesn't work then we will have to replace something else. So then I ask them if you are not sure how is that "DIAGNOSTICS" they reply by saying sorry you will have to pay the $45 any which way. A battery which costs $40 - $50 outside they said it would cost $90 plus and an additional charge of $110 for labor. I ask them your hourly rates are $70 or something and $110 is if you go outside and fix the laptop, their response was it will take more than an hour to connect the Battery(on youtube there is a 8 minute video on how to replace the battery for my laptop). I felt there is something fishy and went there to collect my laptop thinking I should probably take a second opinion. When the laptop was returned to me I realized they had removed the battery and kept it aside and I asked the salesman where is the battery. He said sorry it might be kept outside and our technician will come back tomorrow and fix it. So i go back there the next day again to collect the Laptop and now the battery is fixed. I had to pay the diagnostics fee and their report say my battery is faulty and when the battery is removed no error message pops up. I argued with them saying yesterday you told me my battery was removed and I still saw the error message and today when the battery is connected back it still displays the error message then how can you claim the battery is faulty. So then the technician says it maybe some issue with the motherboard etc etc etc. I was really disappointed and took my laptop from there (ofcourse after having paid the "Diagnostics fee"). I go to FIX IN A ZIP at marketplace. I must say their service was amazing. They looked at my laptop and said it is the charging port that has an issue cause a laptop that is just an year old will not really have battery issues. They said it would cost $10 to replace the charging port and an additional charge of $99 for their labor. I am typing this review from my the same laptop after it has been fixed for $105 whereas Microworx were charging my $235 for replacing the battery and no guarantees that it will work after that. The Fix and Zip people have given me a warranty for the charging port for a year and plus a discount of 10% since its my first order. I request all of you to please avoid Microworx, they are trying to loot customers since they know we are not very knowledgeable. I strongly recommend "FIX AND ZIP". Also I think Microworx has a tie up with Best Buy cause I know a couple of people who have been recommended to Microworx from Best buy. Please don't fall for it and waste your money, I got my laptop fixed for less than half of the price that was quoted by Microworx. If you value your money please...
Read moreI cannot believe the bad experience I had with them. I will not go there again. It started last Wednesday when I brought my HP laptop to get serviced for a message I received about my battery not recharging. The Windows message was “plugged in, not charging”. My laptop was switching by itself from A/C power to battery and back again, by itself. They called me later in the day to tell me that my motherboard needed to be replaced. I told them to go ahead and order it, hoping for a speedy turnaround, and agreed to pay an extra $50 for “expedited service”. We’ll get to that part later.
I called on Friday and they said it arrived and to wait to hear from them. I expected to hear later on Friday about the repair being finished. When I didn’t hear I called on Saturday. They complained that they were down a staffer or two due to sickness and it would be complete early in the week.
Monday went by without hearing a thing from them. On Tuesday I called in the morning and begged to get my laptop back as I use it daily for my business. When they called back later Tuesday morning the tech said it was “in process” of being finished but it might be until Wednesday that I would get it back (?!). At that point they had 1.5 hours of labor into it. That brings me back to the “expedited service” issue. I would think “expedited” would mean that not only would I be put at the top of the service queue, but that my issue would be worked on until complete, once parts arrived. 1.5 hours of labor spread over 3+ days is what I was looking at. They called me back later on Tuesday to tell me it was ready and when I asked them about the expedited issue I was told to deal with Kay on this. When I arrived to pick up the laptop, the woman who waited on me complained that she “wasn’t a tech” but that some other part delayed the work (possibly a microphone cable or something, although no mention of this was on my paperwork) and that Kay was busy. After stating my case in a logical way multiple times that I shouldn’t have to pay the $50 expedited fee she reluctantly took this off my bill in a huff. I paid the $430 bill and took my laptop home.
But the story doesn’t end there! I immediately plugged in my laptop to A/C, booted to Windows, and got the SAME ERROR MESSAGE I initially received almost a week prior, “plugged in, not charging”. I then brought it BACK to Microworx, and waited while they again looked into it. After 15-20 minutes of waiting, finally an older gentleman (possibly the owner?) told me the real reason for the message was that my A/C cord was underpowered (65 watts vs. 90 watts). He swapped out the cords at no charge (thank you!) and my problem was FINALLY fixed. But why was I charged almost $400 for a new motherboard when a simple cord swap would have fixed the problem? And if the motherboard was indeed the issue I can understand that, but not how the whole issue was handled. Very poor...
Read moreI took my laptop in with a broken display and asked to have it looked at. I went in to get a diagnostic, and was told to bring it in a few days later, because the laptop was still working internally, and it would be looked at. After bringing it in on the day I was told, I had to bug the store to tell me when it could be picked up. The repair man told me my motherboard was basically worthless and it wasn’t worth putting more money or time into it. They couldn’t replace my broken display, and then said that it wasn’t working with the new display. THEN they said they couldn’t get my old screen back in, and gave me back my laptop in 2 pieces??? Now there are dents on parts of the computer that it wasn’t even dropped on, and the mousepad is crooked. The dents could be causing more damage to the internals that could long term severely damage my computer. I got my laptop back in more pieces that I brought it in, and in far worse condition. Horrified with my experience and can say there was only one employee that seemed like they really cared about me getting my laptop fixed, and they weren’t even a part of my laptop being fixed they were observing from the desk. Taking it to a higher rated repair store, I was told they incorrectly removed parts, potentially causing more damage to it. I was also told their diagnostic was not thorough with the results I was given, and should have told me more than “the mother board is broken.” Worst part is I was forced to pay for a diagnostic fee that they seemed horribly uncertain about, and in now finding out from a REAL shop that it was a terribly vague diagnostic. Will never bring my electronics here again and will never recommend to a...
