I wish I would have read reviews before going here. If your selling clothes I would not recommend Once Upon A Child in Syracuse. I spent last weekend sorting through 9 totes of girls clothes from size newborn-3T. I sold the 3T tote for $100 via marketplace. I spent roughly 8 hours over the course of two days sorting by size and style into organized 27 gallon totes. I brought 8 FULL totes to Once Upon A Child on Friday 10/18/24 around 11:30. I drove 1.5 hours from Clayton. I brought roughly 800 pieces of clothing, shoes, accessories to the store today, again all sorted and organized, laying flat in totes. I am 4 months pregnant and was accompanied by my 10 year old daughter. We carried all 8 totes into the store without any help. Not one employee even offered to help. Just stated as I made 8 trips to my car and back. I shopped the store while they went through. I expected them to take a couple hours. In less then 45 minutes they had gone through and picked what they would purchase. They only purchased 136 items for less than $200. I should have requested to see what they choose to purchase But instead I just said okay and completed my own purchase of some items. After making a small purchase of $91 I left the store with $106 cash and almost all of the clothing I had brought in. All clothing was stain free, well maintained and recently washed. While sorting last weekend I tossed stained and warn items. None of my clothing was any older or warn out than the clothes for sale on the shelf. Again, I lugged the 27 gallon totes out to my car myself, 4 months pregnant, with no offers to help. If I would have known that was how the process would go I wouldn’t have let them rummage through the totes I spent hours organizing. I have these totes listed on the marketplace with lists of what each tote contains and now I have re-sort to figure out what is left in each to update correctly. I was at least expecting to get $100 a tote (about $1.00 per piece of clothing). Each tote had roughly 100 pieces of clothing. I drove all the way home before peaking in the totes. That was a huge mistake. I stood standing and crying in my driveway trying to re-sort and organize each tote according to size. There expect you to bring clothes in organized and then just throw it back in however they want. They also seperate outfits by only taking the pants or shirt. They didn’t even go through the entire newborn tote. I could tell how it was left untouched compared to other totes. I was so upset I called and asked to speak to a manager. I wasn’t expecting anything but wanted to let them know how upset they left a pregnant woman. I got to speak with the manager Courtney. She states my stuff was to old to purchase, and that they did go through everything because she was one of the people to look through it. I told her I disagreed; and she either hung up or we got disconnected. I just left it at that. I would not recommend taking clothes here to sell. They should advertise that they only buy clothes less than 2 years old. They are very selective and don’t take much. I took pictures when I got home of random items, not old, not damaged, not stained or warn. I left the store so disappointed and even more frustrated once reviewing what I ended up bringing back home with me. Not worth the 1.5 drive. After I spent $50 on gas and $25 on lunch I dragged 8 totes of over 800 pieces of clothing for a measles $25. I see other people recommend the New Hartford store. I will have to give it a try. Including photos of “old and warn” clothes they wouldn’t purchase, some of which were never even worn by my kids. My youngest born in 2020 so clothes are 4 years or less “old” and exactly the same style of things I saw in store. In fact once in the sweaters I saw the exact same being purchased in the store by a customer but the store didn’t purchase mine. They are too picky and choosey and again I DO NOT recommend wasting your time...
Read moreI would give more stars but there’s a lot I have to say about this place. I would like to start off with the good things, they do have a lot of really cute clothes and shoes for fair prices and I did love the $10 fill a bag sale that they have, as well as their clearance section. However I have had many issues while trying to sell things to them, especially clothes! When I first started going to Once Upon A Child which was a little less than a month ago, I brought in a ton of clothes to sell. They gave me $75 for them all which was great but after that time, every single time I tried to sell anything to them after including clothes they gave me excuses after excuses as to why they couldn’t take my items. The excuses were that clothes weren’t in sets or matching, etc. Mind you the first time I brought in clothes in a bin, barely any of them were sets or matching. There were a bunch of pants, onesies, and etc and we’re all less than 5 years old and were clean with no stains. Like I said, they took mostly everything and gave me $75 for it all. After that, they were offering me extremely low prices for the same quality like the clothing was that I brought in the first time. The only difference was it wasn’t the same clothing. It was still name brand clothing though and in good condition, no stains, less than 5 years old, etc just like the first time I had brought in clothes. Today I came in to bring in two pairs of shoes that were in great condition, one pair was name brand(Crocs) and the other one was UGG brand which to whoever doesn’t know, is a very expensive brand. They ended up only giving me $6 for both pairs which is completely ridiculous. After today, I will not ever be selling anything to them again. Not just because of what happened with the shoes but because any time I bring in clothes they offer me $10 or less and take a few things that were way more than just $10. Plus they give me pretty much the same excuses each time I have tried to sell anything to them since the first time I did. There’s no excuse for taking almost all my clothes the first time I sold to them and giving me $75 for them all and since then only offering $10 or less and taking plenty of items that are worth more than just $10 or less. I’m not one to slam a business down or anything and that is not my goal here but all I’m really saying is they act like they are such a great store and that they are always fair with prices but that’s truly not the case. Like I’ve said, the prices for the clothes they sell are fair and they do have cute clothes but can guarantee that most of their clothes they are selling for a cheap price on the racks they didn’t give the people that sold those close to them their money’s worth. If you wanna go to Once Upon A Child for their sales or some of the cute clothes, that’s great but I highly DO NOT recommend trying to sell anything to them. They will rip you off after the first time you sell to them and then give you excuses every time as to why they can’t take stuff that’s in good shape and has nothing wrong with it. 🤷🏻♀️Rant/Review Over. Just wanted to be honest and give my...
Read moreBrought two bins in. They bought about a third of it. Made enough to cover my gas driving there and back. Plan was to buy pajamas and tank tops but they didn't have any pjs at all on my son's size and the tanks were all faded. Somewhat disappointed. Lots of dingey clothes on the racks but they passed on my new and barely worn clothing which was odd and then they said they had trouble getting boys clothes but again, they passed on mine. Ended up at Target buying ten sets of footed PJs. Thought as a third option I'd look through the holiday racks. Again, nothing for boys in 5 or 6. The OUAC in Florida where I used to go was much nicer IMO. This one is pretty reflective of it's location. Toy section is geared towards infants, not much for 4-7 year olds. Probably won't be back any time soon unless I'm already out that way and have nothing better to do. Edit--- since you cannot reply to their responses underneath them, I'll do it here. You passed on 2021 Gap, Janie and Jack, 2022 Cat and Jack, and surprisingly, 2022 Nordstroms. None of it was outside of three years old nor did anyone say that to me. And I DID bring the lack of selection to the attention of the cashier, who shrugged her shoulders and replied, "yeah, we have a hard time getting boys clothes," all the whole handing me back my bin. All in all, your store got about 200.00 worth of items (garage sale value, had I sold it at home) for twenty four dollars. It's just not a place I'd sell to again, as disappointing as my opinion may be for you. I think it might be more encouraging for whomever reads these reviews, had you accepted responsibility for the fact that you don't have what I was there to buy. A quick glance at the rack would have shown you that I wasn't lying. Apologies go a long way versus trying to say I brought in old clothes, which I did not, and suggesting that I left without mentioning anything which is also false. Again, reflective of my experience and an extension of it....
