Scherer Electric charged me over $500 to essentially reset a tripped GFCI. When I called to dispute the outrageous charge, I was told that even though they 1) did not locate the source of the leakage, 2) did not repair or replace any outlets or GFCIs and 3) were sure that my problem was bound to happen again, they refused to lower the cost. To try to win me over they told me that my fee covers a "warranty" for the same problem so when it happens again, they'll come out at no cost to me. So basically, I get to pay for the privledge of having them return to my house in the future for the exact same problem with no guarantee that they'll find the source or fix it permenantly. Rubbish.
To reply to the ownerâs response: I feel it only necessary to edit my review so as to elaborate what drew me over the edge to right a negative review, something I very rarely do. When I called Scherer Electric to dispute the $504 charge I received for their electricians to literally look in my electric boxes with a flashlight, the technicianâs supervisor spent nearly an hour on the phone with me in a very condescending manner explaining electrical circuits to me and insisting that the technician did more work than I was saying he did. He did NOT listen to a word I said and kept talking in circles, trying to basically convince me that they did all sorts of âinvestigativeâ things they most definitely did not. To end the nonsense, I offered to pay their minimum call-out fee plus a little more to cover the âworkâ the electricians actually performed at my house and was essentially laughed at. So I posted my review here on Google.
Then I received an email from Scherer Electric validating what I was trying to say to them all along. âWe had a meeting and went over your entire job and we agree with you that it was not handled properly. I misunderstood [our electrician], when I spoke with him over the phone I misheard and thought he removed the receptacles and inspected them, he only removed the wall plates and looked in the device boxes with a flashlight.â Then Scherer Electric very rightly and justly gave me a full refund.
It was only after the entirety of this headache that they revealed to me that there was indeed a minimum fee they could have charged me, close to the amount I had offered to pay and something I would have gladly done.
My issue was never with the electrician, who worked on our home before and did a great job. My issue is and always has been with paying the correct amount for the work performed, and being listened to as a customer by the management. I do not feel that, without a significant fight, you will be able to achieve those two things with Scherer Electric. Had the general manager taken into consideration how expressly and vehemently opposed to his insistances I was, maybe taking the time to double check what he heard from his electricians and called me back, this probably would have been resolved in a happier manner. They have good electricians working for them, but their pricing model and customer service need a TON of work.
All this said, they did do right by me in terms of admitting their mistake, as well as offering a refund, which I respect. Yet I would be remiss if I didnât say how aggravated and distrustful I feel when I hear their company...
Read moreThese people are horrible. I called them for an appointment and they were happy to oblige. I asked them for the charge to come give us an estimate. They said the charge is $89. Fine. I can deal with that. However, I asked that someone call me and can assure me that the work CAN be done, because I didnât want to pay $89 to find out it canât be done. They DID call, and they assured me that the work COULD be accomplished. Well, the first thing the Scherrer electricians said to me after introducing themselves, was that the work could NOT be done. I still had to pay them for their visit, and was furious to have to do so. They told me all their calls go through a âcall centerâ down south, and âthey donât know what they are talking about.â WELL THATâS NOT MY PROBLEM! Donât EVER use Scherrer Electricians. Clearly there is a problem at that place with communication. PLUS, they wanted to charge me $800 to install 2 Ring cameras that already had outlets directly underneath to plug them in. Literally: $800 to screw 4 screws into the house above the door and plug them in. Thatâs highway robbery! I will never use these people again, and I urge you not to either! Extraordinarily...
Read moreBe careful with this company and please get multiple quotes before making a decision. Very disappointing.
I recently received four quotes from Scherer to fix my electric. My fuse box was leaking in water and it was a fire hazard. I knew it would be a big job. The quotes from Scherer ranged from 8700 - 10k. I got another quote from a different company. I figured the difference would be a few hundred or a thousand. BUT, the other company was able to do the same thing as the 8700 quote, but for 4400 instead! No negotiation needed. Just officially passed inspection with the town and I am good to go. If I didn't get the other quote, I would be out double the money for the same exact thing. I compared the services and quotes carefully before making my decision. I am extremely disappointed and feel people may be taken advantage of, so I felt it necessary to provide my experience. Don't get me wrong, the employees of Scherer who gave me the quote were very nice and helpful, but wow! Not sure if they just didn't want to do the job, but now, I am afraid to ever ask them to quote...
