Freeport Recreation Center Ice Rink — Local services in Town of Hempstead

It's an embarrassment. My son plays hockey and that's his home rink. We play many teams on Long Island and in New York and out-of-state. Nine out of ten rinks that we go to a very well-kept and maintained. Freeport is embarrassing when other teams come to our rink. Condensation on glass so parents can't watch their children play. You worried about covid? Then don't go to the bathrooms, there is a lot worse germs in there. It smells, toilet seats have urine on them, and make sure there is toilet paper before you sit down. The stands for the spectators is very small. Most people have to stand by the boards. The concession stand hasn't been open since the pandemic started, if it really ever really did start, but when it was open you had to leave the rink, walk across the field into the recreation center. Really? Even then most times it was closed. Just a very poorly kept rink, horrendous bathrooms. A total embarrassment. But apparently is more important to have a state of the art locker room for" their team" then it is to address the issues stated above. Not to mention the mold growing on the inside and outside of the bubble. Or even to mention the hole in the bubble just above the office. My son's game was canceled today due to ice conditions. The ice was too thin. For those of you who are old enough to remember Copiague ice rink Freeport runs a close second to the worst rink on Long island. I have played travel hockey and refereed for many years and have been in many hockey rinks. My son now plays travel hockey and we as well have been in many hockey rinks. Freeport is by far the worst hockey rink I have ever seen and an embarrassment for any team to call their home hockey rink. It's a disgrace, an embarrassment, and a major health concern due to the unsanitary condition...

This review only applies to the hockey rink and the bubble that it is in; my sons’ team recently played an away game at this rink and overall, it should be condemned from a player safety perspective. The indoor air quality is very poor and the excessive humidity causes significant condensation on the glass - to the point where spectators cannot watch a kids hockey game. In addition, the excessive fog created on the ice surface itself results in players and goalies not being able to see the play or the puck. I am honestly surprised that this is considered a legit rink from an insurability perspective. It’s just a matter of time when a kid gets injured because the rink and the air inside the bubble isn’t adequately maintained. The Village should operate its facilities a lot more safer than it...

Went to ice skating rink with my kids, the experience was great. The ice wasn’t fully frozen in all areas I guess because it was a warm day. The cost to skate is reasonable. Unknown to us one vending machine was not working and we lost $2. We called the phone # for a refund and 3 weeks later we got a letter with $2.
