Unfortunately I experienced one of worst cases of deceptiveness here at Scott Russ. I admittedly know very little about musical instruments and specifically a cello that I wanted to buy from this location. I brought my daughter to the location to look at the cello selection and we tried a few cellos out with the intention of buying one for her later on. At that time I was informed that the bow and case was an additional charge. Mid January I decided that I wanted to move forward and purchase the cello for my daughter. Prior to going back I did some online research on the brand offered at Scott Russ (Celestini) where I actually found an ad on reverb and on Ebay for the exact cello we looked at prior ( or at least seemed to be). On Reverb there was an option to make an offer which we did and we agreed upon a price. Because I live a few towns over I informed Scott that I will pick up the Cello in person to waive the delivery fee. The next morning I went to pick up the cello and Scott Immediately walk to the back of the store and grabbed a Cello case that appeared to be a used rental quality cello case. On top of that the Cello that I was picking was much darker in color and did not have the dramatic High Flamed appearance as shown in the Reverb Ad or the Ebay Ad. After pulling out the rental style case which had chalk marks, he began to upsell me on a better quality case. At the moment I was trusting that he was being honest and agreed on the upsell. I was in a rush to get to work which Scott knew. I made the purchase and left.,.. As I drove home I felt like something was not right about the sale. I pulled over and took a closer look at the reverb site and noticed the "up sale cello case" was the actual case on the reverb site that should have Initially came with the cello. And upon closer inspection of the case, there was a tag with the serial number of the cello already in it along with the bow that was supped to be with the cello. At that time I also noticed that the appearance of the cello was not even close to the cello displayed on reverb. I immediately turned around and went back to the store to get my refund. At that point I really had little to no trust with Scott and although I have no proof of it I believe he also sold me an inferior cello. He offered multiple times to reduce the price but out of principal I cant support a business like that. Its very uncommon for me to post such a negative comment for any business especially a small business but at the same time I've never seen such a scummy move by a...
Read moreI needed to replace my sons broken cello and did not know anything about this instrument. After reading various good reviews on various websites I went to Scott Russ instruments in Merrick. The owner Scott took well over an hour educating me on Cellos to the point where I felt comfortable purchasing an instrument from him. To ensure I was getting a good quality instrument at a good price, I went on line and compared the quality and price to similar ones on line and felt confident that I got a great deal. He also spent time showing my son how to properly care for the instrument. My sons music instructor was very impressed with the Cello and thought we paid more than we actually had. I highly recommended Scott Russ music store and will only purchase instruments for my...
