YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT AN REI STORE ASAP!!!
I found REI via the Yakima website as I was researching my upcoming cargo box purchase for my new SUV. The manufacturer wanted $200 to ship to me or local pickup at an REI was free and they had options in stock I could look at in person.
As soon as I pulled up I knew I underestimated how cool this place was going to be and the potential damage I could do to my financial stability going inside a place with so many toys for people who like the outdoors.
I walked in with my 2 year old son, we were greeted by Christina who was extremely welcoming and helpful. She explained some of the things REI sells as well as the membership program.
Ultimately I ran out of time and didn’t purchase but promised I’d be back to wrap things up. Today I went back solo and did just that.
I walked in and worked with Kathleen who helped me understand that the box wasn’t in stock at the moment but there were a few in stock options I could check out. Kathleen tagged in Mich who unlocked each box and showed me the features as well as offered me a killer deal on a previously returned higher end box that they’d discount deeply for me. We then went to the bike section and Nikita helped me realize that this was the box for my specific vehicle and rack system as well as how great the deal really was.
I checked out up front with Kathleen, I even joined the membership program I mentioned earlier.
The five star experience doesn’t end there, I then was met outside by Mich who set the box up on top of my truck so I was ready to hit the road.
REI has something really special going on, their team really is made up of knowledgeable and friendly folks who clearly love what they do.
Five stars, a high five, and a thank you to the whole crew at REI...
Read moreI’m very disappointed with the dishonesty at this shop. I called ahead to ask how much it would cost to replace the tire on my son’s bike. I was told $35. When I arrived and the work was done, they suddenly charged me $70 — $32 more than I was quoted. I expressed my concern to the manager, but they refused to honor the original price. I understand that $70 might be a fair price for parts and labor in Huntington, NY — if you’re upfront about it. But when a customer calls specifically to ask for the price and is given a number, it’s completely unacceptable to tack on more than $30 without any notice. That’s not just bad service — it’s dishonest. I had actually planned to look at new bikes for my son, who’s outgrown his current one. But after being misled so bluntly, I have no interest in supporting a business that doesn’t treat customers with...
Read moreI just wanted to shout out Pete and Christine for their assistance when I stopped in at REI yesterday. I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Pete a few times over the years, he fitted me for my backpacking pack and guided me in choosing all of my camping gear (in carle place before Huntington opened, I’ve just never thought to write a review) and he’s always just such a joy to converse with. He’s passionate and knowledgeable about everything there, more so than any other employee (they’re all good though!). I hadn’t met Christine before but she really was excellent and personable in assistance with the bike department and helping me find what I needed. Such refreshing interactions with Pete and Christine that it actually made my week. ...
