Paper Doll Vintage Boutique — Local services in Town of Islip

Selection was beautiful but salesperson was not welcoming. I visited this boutique today with my mother. We love fashion and always try and stop at new vintage boutiques while we travel. We heard good things about Vintage Dolls and were excited to check it out. While the selections was amazing, I was instantly put off by the salesperson. She did not greet us upon entering and did not offer any help throughout the experience. As a collector of vintage scarves I would have loved it she would’ve offered to open the cases while I was admiring them. There were multiple opportunities for her to offer assistance or even just a friendly bit of chit chat but she seemed in no mood. As someone who has worked in retail before, making customers feel welcome is incredibly important. Some conversation starters like the below would’ve make the experience a lot less awkward. is there anything I can help you find today? let me know if I can open up any of the cases for you? what brings you in today? She turned what would’ve been a multiple item sale into a unpleasant browsing experience. As a bigger gal who enjoys a retro look but is confused by vintage sizing, I often strike out at the consignment shop. What excites me about PDVB is that they carry retro repro dresses in everyone’s size. I’m talking S-3X in cuts that are flattering to all of those sizes. I’m talking really flattering. I’m talking no more having to leave behind a cute one-of-a-kind (although they have those, too!) piece due to size, or even worse, dooming a garment to a long shelf life waiting for thinner days. I went in for a semi-formal party dress, and it was great to choose based on style preference rather than size. I love this dress, it has already seen two weddings and chaperoned a prom. Paper Doll has lots of variety, great sales and reasonable pricing for high quality pieces. Also- if you sign up for their mailing list at the register, you get a percentage off your first purchase and get to stay in the sales loop! I highly recommend...

I can’t believe I’ve never rated Paper Doll! I’ve been shopping at Paper Doll Vintage since I first moved to Long Island in 2014. Dominique, Amanda, and all staff have always made me feel like I was a friend coming in for a visit. The stores have always have a wide variety of vintage in regards to decades and styles. Staff is knowledgeable. Through out the years they have always thrown fun events; recently they did a showing of Clueless. Past events included fashion shows, photography sets (like Dominique HAND makes sets and props- her talent is beyond me), art shows (check out Amanda’s amazing art!). They are MORE than a store!
