Story: I was working With Chris at Long Island coin to acquire an investment grade coin in Summer of 2022. I told him I was interested in old Spanish gold if it was something I could buy. Chris showed me a 2 Escudos from Phillip the 3rd and told me he wanted $6500 for it presenting it as investment grade. After a few weeks I researched the coin and saw it could go from $3k to $10k, I told Chris I would give him 6k for it and Chris advised the $6500 caught him on a good day. Being he was more knowledgeable with the coins and was presenting it as investment grade I went ahead and made the purchase August of 22. I wanted to move into American coins after 6-12 months of purchasing the escudo. So I went back to Chris to swap out the investment and then Chris offered me $3k for the coin. He said that the market was down for these coins. I went to several other entities and no one valued the coin near the $6500 and said to recommend investment grade they would need a license so they couldn’t speak on it. When I went back to Chris and confronted him about this he came all the way up to $5500 in”trade only” and said I would have to give him more money for any other coin. After that I ended the business relationship as him being a scammer.
I understand he needs to make money but to be providing a coin and presenting it as investment grade selling it to me at 6500 and then when trying to trade it back to say it lost half its value does not sound right. Coins are a commodity I understand but the don’t lose more than 50 percent of their value within a year he sold the coin to me way over value and is trying to cover up this fact by saying the market dropped no one could predict 50 coins of the same type would come up on auction. The coins itself is considered population 1 of 3 and is the top population...
Read moreRecently, Hubby took me to this shop to do some business. He had visited the shop before, but it was my first time here. The owner, Chris, is a friendly, professional shop owner. The shop has many coins and collectibles, including antique and vintage items. A collector’s paradise! A few exciting collectibles include rare coins, fossils, rocks, minerals, and an old telephone booth from the 1940s. This huge phone booth has a built-in light and fan. Awesome! I had a chance to view and learn about some rocks and minerals while browsing. There’s a corner for ocean lovers like me who collect seashells and specimens from the sea. The shark’s skeleton was looking right at me. Look at those sharp teeth! Amazing! An antique slot machine looked so cute. The place was well organized. It was easy for me to view specific coins and collectibles. Other than Chris, I also had the opportunity to speak and do business with James, who often works on some projects with Chris. James showed me a jewelry tray. I got a lovely silver ring with nice colored stones at a great price, and Hubby also bought some nice coins. It was great to work with both Chris and James. Visit them and get their expertise in numismatics and antique collections. You won’t be disappointed.
Visiting coins and collectibles shops has always been a fun experience. This place has something for everybody. I’ll return to view more scarce coins and treasures of the sea. We’re very thankful for their hospitality! Excellent shop and service! Highly...
Read moreMy 6 year old son recently took up collecting coins and has been obsessed ever since. While at a local coin show we met Chris, owner of Long Island Coin. My son was admiring his collection and Chris introduced himself and generously provided my son with a commemorative nickel set which we were actually actively seeking. He provided us with a postcard of his business and said to stop if we were local.
We stopped into Long Island Coin less than 30 minutes before closing on a Friday. Chris instantly remembered myself and my son even though it was a month since we met which was impressive.
Chris is extremely passionate about coins and even shared his personal testimonial of how he started collecting at the same age as my son.
He provided my son with a small wooden treasure chest and provided him with an array of coins to fill it as well as directed him to a huge chest filled with miscellaneous foreign coins that he could search and take from.
This was an amazing experience for myself and my son that we will never forget and the fact that he provided this without accepting anything monetarily in return shows his altruistic nature in investing for the future of young numismatics.
Do yourself a favor and stop in to review his intriguing displays and collection, purchase or sell rare coins, and bring any child who is interested in coins as they will get a...
