HUDSON BIKE CO THESE ACE MECHANICS ARE ALSO GOOD SAMARITANS (Warning, this review comes in the form of a somewhat lengthy anecdote.)

HUDSON BIKE CO had been open about 10 days when I came shambling in with a crippled Peugeot 10-speed I'd bought for a hundred bucks on craigslist.

I'd bashed my front wheel dropping off a super-high cement kerb onto a concrete roadway. Seriously bent it. An obstacle sprang up in my path -- a metal thingamajig jutting out of the pavement at a Poughkeepsie construction site -- which would have flattened me if I hadn't swerved.to avoid it.

Due to this misfortune, I faced the prospect of a 28-mile wobble home on a bent wheel destined to collapse under my weight somewhere along Route 9W.

Halfway to Highland on the Walkway-over-the-Hudson, I spotted three serious-looking cyclists and dismounted (shakily) to seek their advice..I was in luck. They were locals. One was able to direct me to HUDSON BIKE CO which he informed me had "just opened" and was on Route 9W "behind a liquor store" .

When I finally found HUDSON BIKE CO I found It was indeed behind -- nearly hidden by -- seemingly inside of -- separated by nothing but a wall-sized pane of glassl from -- SHAMROCK WINE & LIQUORS.

Truing proved to be out of the question, so I asked about replacement. Did they have any front wheels in stock that matched mine? Sadly, no. Not surprising, given that my wheel was designed for makes & Models from -- 1975 maybe?

But the Checkout Guy assured me an Ace Mechanic would be in soon and that he (the Ace) would figure something out. And, miracle of miracles, he did.

The Ace arrived as predicted and proved himself a True Ace by straightening the wheel well enough to get me home.

The Ace & the Checkout Guy then proved themselves Good Samaritans by not charging me for this minor but absolutely essential adjustment.

Not a complete repair, they explained. The least they could do, help a fellow cyclist back on the road.

To put it in a more Jewish way -- almost a slogan, already -- At HUDSON BIKE CO they have RACHMUNES & show real...

Atmosphere is nice, somewhat organized and clean. I live about an hour away and was willing to try a new bike shop. Figured I'd give this place a shot. I brought 3 bikes for service. 2 of them got the black diamond (full suspension mtn & road bike) and 1 got the blue square (full suspension mtn).

When dropped off I was told that it wouldn't be longer than a week to get them back. I stated I needed one of the bikes in a week and a few days for a charity ride. I was guaranteed I would have the bikes back no problem..... Well two weeks later I finally got my bikes back after a few issues.

Since the bikes weren't done in time I had to call a friend and borrow his bike for the event. A phone call would have been maybe helpful or somewhat of a heads up that my bikes were going to take longer than expected. But, I did not receive a call or anything, I had to call for the updates.

The day I picked up it was pouring out so I just brought them home and the next day I inspected the bikes. I found that the new dropper post that was installed on my mtn bike was inoperable after pushing it up and down 2 times. So, after trying to trouble shoot the issue myself I had to bring it back up and waste another hour of driving and an hour of waiting for the problem to get fixed. Additionally, there were a few bolts loose on my mtn bike and bars were all crooked on my road bike. Just some simple things that I don't know how goes unnoticed. Some of my friends who are avid riders were around and were inspecting some of these issues with me and we all were confused on some of the things we found.

The guys that I did interact with were nice and apologetic but I will not be returning here based on my less then...

Had a great time shopping their today with my wife, i actually don't think i ever got the guys name who helped us, but he was super super helpful, honest and knowledgeable. he was transparent about cost and quality which made me feel good buying from this particular store. They carried well known, reliable bike brands and equipment. let me test ride in the parking lot and even assembled and placed the bike rack we got on our car, put some more air in the bike tires, explained everything to me in plain english. just an overall fantastic experience. hopefully these bikes will last many years to come, but if i did have to come back i wouldn't be...
