It's my first time back after the reopening! I got a chance to make an order online and pick-up in store. When I got the order, I immediately got a response that it was already in the store and ready for pick-up. I couldn't pick up during the weekday. I'm so glad about the new store hours, given that I was able to pick up on a Sunday!!
It was very quiet, and people were already there picking up their books. The layout has changed a bit. I feel like this bookstore is for folks who grew up going to this bookstore, and the place felt more grown up (if that makes sense. Also not a bad thing!) What was the kids area now looks like the event area with chairs, a couch, and more books. The back of the store is now "Bookworm Park", the area for the little ones. I'm looking forward to bringing the little guy here soon.
There was an open puzzle for folks to participate, which I thought was cool. People were nice, and I was able to get the book with no issues. I hope this bookstore is here to stay!
Note: the review below is from 2021. I do feel the same way about it now, just that some things have changed.
This bookstore is cute. They have a selection of different types of books including fiction, non fiction, cooking, and many others! I also saw that they had toys/board games and a section for kids. I didn't buy anything from there, but my wife tried to get a book that wasn't available. We wanted an excuse to come back to the store, so we asked the person to order the book for us. Looking forward to getting more books from...
Read moreGood lord, you don't expect to find a book shop quite like this one in a town the size of Larchmont and yet here we are. I rocked up with an eclectic list of titles with few expectations. They had 3 out of the 6 and could order 2 of the others! The 6th was so far beyond the pale that nothing could be done. So in reality that's 5 out of 5 AND it's a small bookshop! In addition the staff member (possibly owner...she had a proprietorial air about her) was extremely knowledgeable about books, authors and doubtless life itself. So, if you're looking for an incredible bookshop, you may have found it. Oh, and it's not the ghastly Amazon so it's win-win. Huzzah and a tip of the hat to possibly the best bookshop between the thriving stacks of Yonkers and the famous White Plains book clubs that scatter the land between the Hudson and the Atlantic (if my geography is correct which it possibly isn't) I wonder if Andersons sends books overseas? They do almost...
Read moreThis is my FAVORITE local bookstore in the Westchester area. I am an avid book reader and a big book lover, and I can spend hours upon hours in this beautiful store. It is truly such a staple of Larchmont, and adds hours of entertainment and fun for the whole family on any given day!
Jess and her team have truly made J Anderson's Books feel like a home away from home. Everyone who visits is made to feel like family. It is clean and cozy with a large selection of books for kids and adults. There is never a shortage of books on the shelves and if you want a specific book, they are more than happy to order it for you -- which takes no time at all! Everyone who works here is so friendly, helpful and knowledgable about books and they're always willing to give you great suggestions.
I love visiting this local bookstore and I highly encourage...
