Very disappointed by the extreme amounts of salt in most of the food. I feel hesitant to write a negative review about a vegan establishment, especially a new business location, but the owners need to hear it, as does anyone else considering to eat here!!! BEWARE / WARNING.
One of the owners is a nutritionist, which is not a legally defined profession like a dietician, but still she should know better! It’s very dissapointing because places like this will actually lead people away from veganism. Many people are willing to try being vegan to improve their health, but give up when they do not see results.
WARNING - the soup suggested to customers as lower in salt, actually has more than 1000mg per serving!! I inquired and double checked with the kitchen staff. 7 table spoons for 24 quarts, assuming they are measuring with flat scoops is 1050mg per pint. Even if it was half this, it’s still too much. Probably they are adding more than what they claim by using rounded scoops.
2300mg is the upper limit for daily sodium intake. Levels above this are very damaging to your health, and the science on this is as clear as saying smoking is bad for your health.
What is a “nutritionist” doing, adding this much salt to food, and marketing it as healthy? I looked at reviews of their other location, and see that others have commented on this before. I am concerned that the owner may embrace a non scientific or religious view of salt. They may feel that their salt is “high quality”, and is therefore good to add huge amounts into the food of unsuspecting customers who are trying to improve their health by selecting...
Read moreThere is so much to love about R2R! Finally a restaurant in town that makes the connection between the food on our plate, our health, and the planet! The food is incredibly delicious — I’ve tried almost every menu item at this point, and even though I don’t typically eat gluten-free I can’t get over how good the breads are — the matcha lattes and espresso drinks are awesome — and it’s an easy choice to support a family-run business when everyone who owns and works at the restaurant is a genuine joy to speak with and be around. I like meeting up with mom friends for coffee and breakfast after drop off, picking up a big salad for lunch, grabbing something hearty for my husband like the black daal soup to get me off the hook for dinner, pizza and cookie dough truffles for the kids, etc. If you pay attention to the details, you realize how they go the extra mile to include more protein into the options, use plastic-substitutes in their packaging, have a mom-friendly bathroom so as not to alienate those of us coming in with little ones, and they pay attention to customer feedback. This is THE SPOT Larchmont had been waiting for!! HIGHLY highly...
Read moreStopped in to explore their offerings. I am not GF (although perhaps I should be!), but had heard great things about this cafe and wanted to see for myself. I explained to the owner/staff that I’d be traveling next week and wanted to bring some items to my friend who is gluten-free. They were both so helpful, explaining everything to me as we went along!
My friend loves chocolate… and they had so many pastry offerings that fit the bill. Too difficult to choose so I bought “all” of them to sample: brownie bliss, chocolate chip scone, chocolate chunk cookie, and… double chocolate muffin.
Just heated up the double chocolate muffin (to partially melt the chocolate chips…) and it was YUMMY!!! The scone was also delicious!
No need to be gluten-free to try this place! It is awesome! “Support local...
